Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 366
CHAPTER 201-2
Jace scratched behind his ears, and Diesel immediately settled beside him as though he had spent the entire night waiting for this exact moment.
I looked past Jace toward the others.
Derek was helping Mason off his motorcycle, while Ethan was carrying a bag of equipment.
Three other members were injured, and although none appeared to have life-threatening wounds, blood covered enough clothing to make my stomach tighten.
“Dr. Brooks is inside.” I said immediately and Jace nodded.
“Get everyone inside.” Jace said and we moved quickly.
Dr. Liam Brooks had arrived nearly twenty minutes earlier because Jace had called ahead, and he had brought enough medical supplies to treat minor gunshot injuries and wounds from the fight.
The first man had a deep cut across his shoulder, while another had a bullet graze along his upper arm.
Mason had a nasty gash along his side, but Dr. Brooks confirmed that it was superficial.
“Sit down and stop trying to act invincible.” Liam told him as Mason grimaced.
“I wasn’t acting invincible.” Mason said.
“You walked into my examination room while bleeding through your shirt, so I’m going to assume you were planning to.” Dr. Brooks said.
I moved between them with gauze and antiseptic while Liam worked, and although my hands were steady, my heart was still racing.
I knew these men. They were Jace’s family. They were people who had stood beside me when everything had started falling apart, and seeing them injured made the harbour feel far more real than it had when Jace described it over the phone.
Jace stayed close while I helped.
Every few minutes, his hand touched my back or my shoulder, and each time he did, I felt a little more grounded.
When Liam finally finished treating the worst of the injuries, I stepped back and looked at Jace.
“You never told me about the harbour.” I said and his expression changed.
“There was a lot happening.” He said.
“You were trapped.” I said.
“For a few minutes.” He said.
“Jace.” I said and he sighed.
13
Yes we were trapped” He said and I folded my arms.
“And Victor was there.” I said.
“Yes.” He said as my stomach tightened.
“What happened?” I asked.
“He let us escape.” He said and I stared at him.
“He let you?” I asked as Jace nodded.
“That’s what bothers me.” Jace said.
Ethan had been standing nearby, and he finally spoke.
“The evidence we found was real, but it was almost too convenient” Jace said as he looked at him.
“That’s what I think too.” Ethan said.
I felt cold despite the warmth inside the workshop.
“So the entire thing was a setup?” I asked.
“We don’t know yet.” Derek said.
Jace looked toward the others before turning back to me.
“But Victor wanted us to see something.” Jace said and I swallowed.
“And you think he wanted you to bring something back?” I asked.
“That’s what we need to figure out.” Jace said.
For several seconds, nobody spoke. Then Ethan walked toward the motorcycles.
“I want to check everything we brought back before anyone leaves.” Ethan said as Derek nodded.
“That’s smart.” Derek said.
Ethan moved between the bikes, examining saddlebags, storage compartments, and equipment.
I watched him work while Jace stood beside me.
“You should sleep.” He said.
“So should you.” I said.
“I will.” He said.
“You’re lying.” I said.
“I probably am.” He said and despite everything, I smiled. Then Ethan stopped moving.
He crouched beside one of the motorcycles, and his expression changed.
schl
Jace” Ethan said.
Something in his voice made the entire room go silent as Jace turned.
“What?” Jace asked.
