CHAPTER 210-1
Jace’s POV
The moment Derek told us we needed to leave, the afternoon ended.
There was no argument from anyone, because the look on his face told me whatever had happened was serious enough to cut through the one peaceful day we had managed to steal from the chaos.
I helped Paige into the truck while the others gathered their things.
“What happened?” She asked again.
“We’ll find out when we get there.” I said.
“That isn’t an answer.” She said.
“I know.” I said and she looked at me.
“You’re worried.” She said.
“I am.” I said so she reached across the console and took my hand.
“We’ll deal with it.” She said and I squeezed her fingers.
“We always do.” I said.
The drive back toward town was quiet, although my mind was already running through every possibility.
Victor was missing. Damien was missing. We had uncovered another layer of shell companies, found trackers on our motorcycles, and discovered that Kyle had been working for Victor from inside Lawson Customs.
Now Derek had received an urgent call. Whatever was waiting for us, I knew it wasn’t going to be good.
When we reached the roadside recovery depot, I saw the smoke before we reached the entrance.
My stomach dropped as black smoke rose into the sky, while firefighters worked around the building and police vehicles blocked the access road and I pulled over and climbed out.
“What happened?” I demanded and one of the employees hurried toward me.
“We’re okay.” He said.
“Everyone?” I asked.
“Everyone got out.” He said.
Relief hit me first, but it disappeared almost immediately when I looked at the building.
Part of the roof had been blackened, several windows were shattered, and smoke continued pouring from one section.
“How did it start?” I asked.

“We don’t know.” He said and Derek approached from the other side.
“The firefighters are still inside.” Derek said as I looked toward the building.
“How bad?” I asked
“Moderate.” Derek said.
“Moderate doesn’t tell me anything.” I said and Derek looked at the depot.
Cham
“Office is damaged, part of the storage area is burned, and one of the recovery trucks has been damaged.” Derek said as I clenched my jaw.
“Any injuries?” I asked.
“None.” He said and I nodded.
“At least everyone got out.” I said and the depot manager approached us.
“They evacuated as soon as the first explosion happened.” He said and I looked at him.
“Explosion?” I asked and he nodded.
“We heard a loud bang near the rear storage area, and then the fire started.” He said and Derek looked at
“Explosive device.” Derek said.
I felt the anger building.
Victor had not simply attacked the depot. He had made a statement. He wanted us to know that he could reach beyond the clubhouse and Lawson Customs.
He wanted us to understand that nowhere connected to us was automatically safe.
Paige arrived a few minutes later with Emma and Sophia behind her and she stared at the damaged building.
“Is everyone okay?” She asked and I nodded.
“Yes.” I said as she released a breath.
