“Then what do you want me to tell him?” I asked.

“Tell him that Victor may be preparing something bigger.” She said and my smile

disappeared.

“Bigger than the warehouse?” I asked.

“I don’t know.” She said.

“Bigger than the attacks on Lawson Customs?” I asked.

“I don’t know, and that’s exactly why I’m warning you.” She said.

“Do

you think Victor is planning another attack?” I asked.

“I think he’s running out of places to hide, and people who believe they have nothing left to

lose can become extremely dangerous.” She said and I nodded slowly.

“What should we do?” I asked.

“Stay together, keep your people close, keep security tight, and don’t assume Victor will

behave logically.” She said.

I thought about Jace, the club, Lawson Customs, and everyone who had become part of my

life.

“I’ll tell him.” I said.

“There is something else.” She said.

“What?” I asked.

“The people who disappeared weren’t all working on the same case.” She said and I frowned.

“What does that mean?” I asked.

“It means someone may be searching for information across several investigations.” She

said.

“About Victor?” I asked.

“Possibly, or something connected to him.” She said.

“We’ve been finding links between companies, properties, stolen goods, and financial

accounts that shouldn’t be connected.” I said and Sarah’s expression tightened.

“That is what worries me.” She said.

“Do you think this goes back years?” I asked.

“Yes. That’s what concerns me most.” She said quickly.

“What do you think Victor knows?” I asked.

“I don’t know, but if he is searching for the same thing your uncle was searching for, then he

may believe the Iron Vipers are getting too close.” She said and my heart began beating

faster.

“That’s why he’s becoming reckless.” I said.

“Yes.” She said and Sarah gathered her things.

“I wanted you to hear this from me before something happens.” She added.

“Thank you.” I said as she stood and looked at me.

“Keep Jace close.” She said.

“I will.” I said.

“And Paige?” She said and I looked up.

“Don’t underestimate how quickly this can change.” She added.

I left the diner and drove straight back to Lawson Customs.

The garage was still open when I arrived, and the familiar sound of tools and engines did

little to settle my nerves.

Jace was waiting near the office, and the moment I walked through the door, he knew

something was wrong.

“What happened?” He asked and I closed the office door behind me.
