Summary for Chapter 402: Ride With Me (Paige and Jace)

Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 402

CHAPTER 218-2

“He sometimes called him Black.” Aaron said and Cole nodded.

“Once, I heard him say the Keeper.” Cole said and my heart skipped.

The word was written in Uncle Will’s journal. I had seen it more than once.

The Keeper and I looked toward Ethan and he noticed my expression.

“Paige?” Ethan asked as I shook my head.

“Nothing.” I said as Jace looked at me.

“You recognize that word.” Jace said as I hesitated.

“I have seen it in Uncle Will’s notes.” I said as the room went quiet and Ethan immediately

looked at me.

“Where?” Ethan asked.

“In the journals.” I said.

“Show me.” He said.

I looked toward the cabinet where the journals had been stored.

Then I remembered everything that had happened because of them.

Kyle had broken into Lawson Customs searching for them and Victor had sent him.

Someone had killed Kyle before he could explain everything.

And the symbol had appeared again and again in places that should have had nothing to do

with each other.

“I want to compare them first.” I said and Jace nodded.

“That’s probably wise.” Jace said.

We moved into the office, while Derek kept Cole and Aaron under watch.

I opened the locked cabinet and removed Uncle Will’s journals.

The leather covers felt familiar beneath my hands.

For a moment, I simply stared at them.

These journals had started as something I wanted to understand about my uncle.

They had become something far more dangerous and I opened the oldest one and turned through the pages.

Ethan stood beside me while Jace watched from the doorway.

“There.” I said as I pointed to a hand-drawn symbol near the bottom of a page.

It was almost identical to the image Ethan had shown us.

Almost.

There was one small difference. A line had been added through the centre and Ethan leaned

closer.

“That could be significant.” Ethan said.

“Or it could be nothing.” I said.

“Maybe.” Ethan said as I turned another page.

The same symbol appeared beside a list of company names.

Ridgeway Industrial Supply. Blackstone Logistics and Northline Equipment Storage so my

pulse quickened.

“These were all connected somehow.” I said as Ethan nodded.

“We already know that.” Ethan said.

“But Uncle Will was investigating them before Victor was running the Black Reapers.” I said

as Jace stepped closer.

“That means Victor inherited something.” Jace said.

“Or found something.” Ethan said as I looked at him.

“Do you think Victor understands what the symbol means?” I asked.

“Based on what the defectors said, probably not.” Ethan said.

That actually made me feel better. The mystery was still there, but it didn’t explain everything

happening now.

Victor was still the immediate threat. The Black Reapers were still collapsing. And whatever

Mr. Black represented, we couldn’t allow it to distract us from what Victor was planning and I

closed the journal.

“We’re not going down another rabbit hole tonight.” I said and Jace smiled faintly.

“I agree.” Jace said as Ethan looked disappointed.

“Fair enough.” Ethan said as I returned the journals to the cabinet.

Then I locked it and I checked the lock twice before stepping back.

Nobody was getting inside this time. Nobody was taking them and I turned toward Jace.

“We keep this between us.” I said and he nodded.

“Agreed.” Jace said as Ethan closed his laptop.

“I will continue tracing the companies, but I will keep it separate from the immediate

investigation.” Ethan said.

“That’s what I want.” I said.

We returned to the main room and Cole and Aaron were still sitting beneath Derek’s watch

and Cole looked toward the cabinet.

“Those are the journals?” Cole asked and I froze.

“How did you know about them?” I asked and his expression changed.

“Victor talked about them.” He said and Jace immediately stepped forward.

“What did he say?” Jace asked as Cole looked nervous.

“He said they were the reason someone had been searching for your family for years.” Cole

said and my heart tightened.

“Who?” I asked.

“I don’t know.” He said.

“Did he mention Mr. Black?” I asked as Cole shook his head.

“He said the journals were dangerous because they contained names.” Cole said.

“What names?” I asked.

“I don’t know.” He said as Derek stepped closer.

“Then you have given us everything you know.” Derek said and Cole nodded.

“Yes.” Cole said.

I looked toward the locked cabinet and the journals were secure. That was enough for

tonight.

I needed to focus on Victor and Ethan’s phone suddenly rang so he answered.

“Ethan speaking.” He said.

He listened for several seconds and his expression changed.

“What do you mean he is gone?” Ethan asked as I looked at Jace and Ethan stood slowly.

“The Black Reapers compound is empty.” Ethan said as Jace’s face hardened.

“What about Victor?” Jace asked.

“They can’t find him.” Ethan said and Derek stepped closer.

“Search the property?” Derek said.

“They already did.” Ethan said.

“His phone?” Derek asked.

“Disconnected.” Ethan said.
