Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 404
CHAPTER 219-2
That was what I had begun appreciating most during those quiet weeks.
The little moments mattered. The conversations over coffee. The laughter in the workshop.
The family dinners.
The evenings when Jace came home and complained about someone leaving tools where
they didn’t belong.
Life had become ordinary again, and I wanted to hold onto it.
That evening, Jace and I sat on the balcony above the garage while the sun dropped toward
the horizon.
The workshop below us was finally quiet, and the streets beyond Lawson Customs had
settled into the slower rhythm of evening.
Jace rested his arms against the balcony railing while I sat beside him with my feet tucked
beneath me.
“You know what I like about this?” I asked.
“What?” He asked.
“This.” I said as he glanced at me.
“The quiet. The garage downstairs, the sunset, and the fact that nobody is trying to kill us.” I
said and he smiled faintly.
“That last part is probably my favorite.” He said as I leaned against him.
“For the first time in a long time, I feel like we might actually be getting our lives back.” I said
but Jace stayed quiet and I turned toward him.
“You don’t believe that.” I said.
“I want to.” He said.
“That’s not what I asked.” I said and he looked toward the horizon.
“I don’t think Victor is finished.” He said and I sighed.
“Neither do I.” I said.

“He has lost too much. His people, his warehouses, his weapons, his money, and whatever
control he thought he had.” Jace said.
“And he disappeared.” I said.
“Exactly.” He said and I frowned.
“You think that means he’s planning something.” I said.
“I think a man like Victor doesn’t disappear because he has given up.” He said and I looked
down at the quiet workshop.
“What if this is finally over?” I asked and Jace turned toward me.
“Then I will be the happiest man alive.” He said and I smiled.
“You know, we could actually plan the wedding.” I said.
“We could.” He said.
“And maybe buy that house we talked about.” I said.
“We could do that too.” He said.
For a moment, I allowed myself to believe him. Then his phone rang and the sound cut
through the quiet evening.
Jace looked at the screen, and his expression changed before he even answered.
“Derek?” He asked and I watched him straighten.
“Tell me.” He said as he listened without saying anything, and I felt the warmth disappear
from the evening.
“What road?” Jace asked and there was another pause followed.
“How many?” Jace asked as my stomach tightened and Jace stood.
“Don’t engage them. Keep eyes on them, but nobody moves until I get there.” He said and he
ended the call so I stood as well.
“What happened?” I asked.
Jace looked at me, and the calm expression he had been wearing for the past two weeks
was gone.
