Then Mason moved into position and the first truck stopped. The second followed and the third

barely had time to slow before Iron Vipers vehicles blocked both exits.

The Black Reaper riders reached for their weapons and I stepped forward.

“Nobody needs to get hurt.” I said as one of them laughed.

“You think we are surrendering to you?” He asked.

“I think you have three trucks surrounded.” I said as another rider looked around.

He finally understood. They were trapped.

“Get out.” I said.

Nobody moved and Mason stepped closer.

“Get out before this becomes something worse.” Mason said.

The first driver opened his door. Then the second and the third followed.

We searched the trucks while Ethan documented everything.

The rear doors opened and inside were crates. Lots of them and Ethan examined one.

“Illegal firearms.” Ethan said as Mason swore quietly as I looked across the loading area.

“How many?” I asked.

“Enough to supply several operations.” Mason said and I nodded.

“Photograph everything.” I said as Ethan raised his camera.

“We have it.” Ethan said.

We didn’t take the weapons for ourselves. We secured the scene, recorded the evidence, and

called Sarah and she understood immediately.

“Don’t move anything unless you have to.” She said.

“We won’t.” I said.

“I’m sending units.” She said.

“Understood.” I said.

We kept the Black Reaper drivers contained until the authorities arrived.

Nobody fired a shot. Nobody was injured and the shipment was lost. Another piece of Victor’s operation had disappeared.

But Sarah wasn’t finished.

While police units moved toward the freight district, Ethan received another message.

“What now?” I asked as he looked at his phone.

“Someone anonymously sent information to another police division.” Ethan said.

“About what?” I asked.

“A storage location.” He said.

“Black Reapers?” I asked.

“Yes.” He said.

“How much?” I asked.

“Unknown.” He said and I stared at him.

“Can they trace the source?” I asked.

“No.” He said.

The anonymous information led police to a second location across town.

Within the hour, we received confirmation that officers had seized another cache of illegal weapons and ammunition.

Victor had lost another shipment. Then another. He was being cut apart from multiple directions.

The Black Reapers were losing supplies faster than they could replace them, and the police were beginning to seize what remained so I looked toward Mason.

“This isn’t random.” I said.

“No.” Mason said.

“Someone is feeding Sarah information.” I said.

“Maybe.” Mason said.

“Or someone is feeding the police.” I said as Ethan looked at us.

“Either way, Victor is losing ground.” Ethan said.

I thought about Paige and I thought about our wedding.

Instead, we were sitting in an industrial district surrounded by evidence crates while Victor’s

operation collapsed piece by piece.

I checked my phone and Paige had sent one message.

I smiled and I typed back.

I will.

For the first time that night, I felt something other than tension.

Then Ethan’s phone rang and he answered but his expression changed.

“What?” I asked as he listened.

“Are you sure?” Ethan asked and another pause followed.

“Understood.” Ethan said as he ended the call.

“What happened?” I asked.

“Word is spreading through the Black Reapers.” Ethan said.

“About the shipments?” I asked.

“Yes.” He said.

“Victor?” I asked and Ethan nodded.

“He knows.” Ethan said as Mason sighed.

“That was going to happen.” Mason said.

“What else?” I asked and Ethan hesitated.

“Damien confronted him.” Ethan said and I looked at him.

“Again?” I asked.

“Yes.” He said.

I knew exactly where this was going. Damien had questioned Victor before, and Victor had nearly

killed him for it.
