CHAPTER 235-3

Jace was usually willing to trust his instincts, but he wasn’t willing to accuse Sarah without evidence.

“We need proof.” I said.

“Exactly.” He said as he wrapped an arm around my waist.

“And until we have it, we keep watching.” He added as I leaned against him.

“That’s probably the right move.” I said and he kissed my forehead.

“You really have been suspicious of her for months.” He said.

“I have.” I said.

“Why did you never tell me?” He asked.

“I thought you were already suspicious.” I said and he laughed.

“That’s not an answer.” He said.

“It was enough of one.” I said and he shook his head.

“You’re impossible.” He said.

“You married me.” I said.

“I did.” He said.

“And now you’re stuck.” I said and he smiled.

“I’m perfectly happy being stuck.” He said.

We finished dinner, and after eating, we carried our plates outside to the small balcony overlooking

the workshop.

The lights below illuminated the closed garage doors, and for once there were no motorcycles arriving, no members coming and going, and no emergency calls breaking the quiet.

Jace leaned back in his chair.

“When this ends, we’re taking a holiday.” Jace said and I looked at him.

“Where?” I asked.

“Somewhere nobody knows us.” He said.

“That sounds suspicious.” I said.

CHAPTER 235-3

“It sounds peaceful.” He said.

“Do you know any peaceful places?” I asked.

“I can find one.” He said and I smiled.

“Maybe somewhere near the ocean.” I said.

“I like that.” He said.

“Somewhere with no club meetings.” I said.

“Definitely.” He said.

“No weapons.” I said.

“Probably.” He said.

“No investigations.” I said.

“That might be harder.” He said.

“No Sarah Collins.” I said and he laughed.

“That can be arranged.” He said as I rested my head against his shoulder.

“Maybe we could stay somewhere for a week.” I said.

“A week?” He asked.

“Maybe two.” I said and he turned toward me.

“I was thinking longer.” He said.

“How long?” I asked.

“Long enough that you forget what day it is.” He said.

“That sounds perfect.” I said and we sat there quietly.

For the first time in weeks, the future didn’t feel like something we had to fight for. It felt like

something waiting for us.

Then Diesel barked downstairs.

I lifted my head and Jace immediately sat upright.

Diesel barked again, louder this time.

“He’s downstairs.” I said.
