Victor pulled a gun on him.” Ryan said and my stomach tightened.

“Did he shoot him?” I asked.

“No.” Ryan said as he shook his head.

“He told Damien to leave and said he was finished with him.” Ryan added as Jace stared at him

“Where did Damien go?” Jace asked.

“I don’t know.” Ryan said.

“Did Victor say where he was sending him?” Jace asked.

“No. He just kept saying Damien had failed too many times.” Ryan said as he rubbed his hands together and I looked at Jace.

He was already thinking several steps ahead.

“Why leave now?” Jace asked as Ryan looked toward the floor.

“Because Victor is getting worse.” Ryan said.

“How?” Jace asked.

“He barely sleeps. He spends hours staring at maps, then suddenly changes plans. He keeps ordering people to move, then changes his mind. He has become obsessed with finding someone.

“Who?” Jace asked and Ryan looked at me.

“Paige.” Ryan said and my stomach tightened.

“What did he say?” I asked.

“He said everything started because of you.” Ryan said and Jace moved closer.

“What exactly did he say?” Jace asked as Ryan’s voice dropped.

“He said you are the reason he lost control of the club, the reason his money disappeared, and the reason people started leaving.” Ryan said as Jace’s jaw tightened.

“And?” Jace asked.

“He said if he can’t rebuild, he will make sure you lose everything too.” Ryan said.

The garage became silent.

I knew Victor had threatened me before. However, hearing that his remaining people had seen how unstable he had become made the threat feel different and Jace looked at Ryan.

“What else?” Jace asked as Ryan hesitated.

“Victor is planning something.” Ryan said.

“That’s not enough.” Jace said.

“I know.” Ryan said as he looked frustrated.

“I don’t know the details, but I heard him talking about a location.” Ryan added.

“What location?” Jace asked.

“I never heard the name.” Ryan said.

“Then what did you hear?” Jace asked.

“He mentioned a road, then a bridge, then something about waiting until the Iron Vipers were distracted.” Ryan said and Jace’s eyes narrowed.

“Distracted by what?” Jace asked as Ryan shook his head.

“I don’t know.” Ryan said and Jace walked toward the office.

“Ethan needs to hear this.” Jace said as Ryan followed and I stayed beside Jace.

“Do you believe him?” I asked.

“I believe he’s scared.” Ryan said.

“That’s not the same thing.” I said.

“No.” Ryan said and Jace looked at Ryan.

“But desperate men are unpredictable.” Jace said as Ryan nodded.

“That’s why I left.” Ryan said and Jace stopped.

“You think Victor will kill his own people?” Jace asked as Ryan looked at him.

“I think he already would if he believed it would save himself.” Ryan said.

That answer sat heavily between us.

We brought Ryan into the office, and Ethan arrived twenty minutes later with Derek.

The questioning continued for almost an hour. Ryan provided names, locations, old meeting places, and information about the people who remained loyal to Victor.

He confirmed that Victor had dismissed Damien after blaming him for repeated failures.

He also confirmed that several Black Reapers had stopped answering Victor’s calls.

The organization was collapsing. However, Victor wasn’t.

When Ethan finally stepped away to compare Ryan’s information with the records recovered from the factory, Jace leaned against the desk.

“How many people are still with him?” Jace asked and Ryan thought for a moment.

“Maybe ten.” Ryan said.

“Maybe?” Jace asked.

“They’re scared.” Ryan said.

“Of us?” Jace asked but Ryan shook his head.

“Of Victor.” He said.

That answer bothered me and Jace looked toward Derek.

“Keep him under supervision.” Jace said and Derek nodded while Ryan looked relieved.

“Thank you.” Ryan said and Jace held up a hand.

“Don’t mistake protection for trust.” Jace said.

“I understand.” Ryan said and the door opened as Sarah walked inside.

I noticed Jace’s expression change immediately and Sarah looked at Ryan.

“Who is he?” Sarah asked.

“Another defector.” Jace said and Sarah’s eyes narrowed.

“Ryan Cole?” She asked and Ryan stiffened as Jace stared at her.

“How do you know his name?” Jace asked and Sarah paused.

“I know the name from Black Reaper records.” Sarah said and Jace didn’t respond but I watched

her carefully.

There it was again. That strange certainty. Sarah had known about the underground facility. She had known Damien was present at the roadside attack. Now she knew Ryan’s name before anyone had introduced him. And Sarah noticed our expressions.
