“Paige.” I said and her voice was calm. Too calm.

“Jace, are you alright?” She asked.

“I am.” I said.

“Good.” She said.

“What’s happening?” I asked and there was a pause.

“I think Sarah is about to have a very bad day.” She said and I frowned.

“What does that mean?” I asked.

“I will explain later.” She said.

“Paige.” I said.

“I love you.” She said.

“I love you too.” I said.

She ended the call and I stared at the phone as Derek looked at me.

“What did she say?” Derek asked.

“She knows something.” I said and Blake shook his head.

“Paige always seems to know more than people think.” Blake said as I looked toward the tunnel.

“That’s what worries me.” I said.

Back at Lawson Customs, Paige stood inside the office with Emma, Sophia, Charlotte, and several Iron Vipers family members.

Sarah had been coordinating police roadblocks from her cruiser, and Paige had expected exactly

what she would do.

Paige had already given the police commissioner copies of the evidence Ethan had collected, including the inconsistencies in Sarah’s reports, her unexplained knowledge, and the locations of

the roadblocks.

The commissioner had arrived with several officers and Sarah stepped out of her cruiser.

“What are you doing here?” Sarah asked as the commissioner looked at her.

“Why?” She asked.

“Because we have enough evidence to believe you have been assisting Victor Kane.” He said and

Sarah’s face changed.

“That is ridiculous.” Sarah said but the commissioner remained calm.

“You redirected police roadblocks away from Victor’s known routes.” He said.

“I was following intelligence.” She said.

“You were following information supplied by Victor.” He said and Sarah stared at him.

“That is not true.” She said as the commissioner stepped closer.

“We have communications.” He said and Sarah’s expression collapsed.

Paige watched from the garage entrance and for the first time, Sarah looked genuinely trapped.

Then Charlotte stepped beside Paige.

“She knows.” Charlotte said and Paige nodded.

“She always knew.” Paige said as Sarah looked toward them.

“You have no idea what you are talking about.” Sarah said as the commissioner looked at Sarah.

“Your father would be disappointed.” He said and Sarah went completely still as Paige’s stomach

tightened.

“Charles Black.” He said and Sarah’s eyes moved toward Paige.

“Yes.” Paige said as the word came quietly.

“My father.” Sarah said as nobody spoke as Sarah looked at Paige.

“Charles Black was my father.” Sarah admitted and Charlotte’s face went pale.

“That is impossible.” Charlotte said.

“No.” I said as Sarah shook her head.

“It isn’t.” Sarah said and the commissioner continued.

“Sarah Collins has been using her position to protect Victor and interfere with investigations

connected to her father’s old network.” The commissioner said and Sarah laughed bitterly.

“Protect Victor?” Sarah asked.

“You have been coordinating his movements.” He said.

“I have been controlling the damage.” She said as Paige stared at her.

“Why?” Paige asked as Sarah looked directly at her.

“Because after my father died, someone had to protect what he built.” Sarah said and Charlotte stepped forward.

“You helped Victor.” Charlotte said.

“I used Victor.” Sarah said.

“That does not make it better.” Charlotte said and Sarah’s expression hardened.

“Victor was useful.” Sarah said and Paige felt sick.

All those times Sarah had arrived first. All those times she knew too much. All those times Victor

escaped. It finally made sense.

Sarah had been warning him and the commissioner stepped forward.

time.

“You have no idea what you just uncovered.” Sarah said as Paige held her gaze.

The officers arrested Sarah and placed her in handcuffs.

Back inside the quarry, I had no idea what was happening.
