Victor kept the gun trained on me.

The tunnel behind him was empty, while the rock wall behind me left nowhere to move.

Derek stood several feet to my right, and Blake was farther back, watching Victor carefully.

Victor’s breathing was heavy, and his face looked completely different from the man who had once stood confidently at the head of the Black Reapers.

He looked exhausted. Angry and cornered.

“You heard me.” Victor said as his voice echoed through the tunnel.

“Drop the weapon.” He repeated and I kept my eyes on him.

“You’re not walking out of here.” I said and Victor laughed.

“You still think you’re in control.” He said.

“No.” I said as I tightened my grip.

“I think you have run out of places to go.” I said and his expression hardened.

“You took everything.” He said.

“You did that yourself.” I said.

“You destroyed my club.” He said.

“Your people left because they stopped believing in you.” I said.

“You took my businesses.” He said.

“You burned them.” I said.

“You took my money.” He said.

“You lost it.” I said.

“You took my men.” He said.

“They chose to leave.” I said and Victor’s breathing became heavier.

“You always have an answer.” Victor said.

“Because you keep blaming everyone else.” I said as he raised the gun slightly.

“You think you’re better than me.” Victor said.

“No.” I said as I kept my voice calm.

“think I made different choices.” I said and Victor stared at me.

“You had everything.” He said and I frowned.

“You had a business. You had a life.” He continued as he shook his head.

“I had all of that once.” He added as Derek shifted slightly and Victor immediately aimed toward

him.

“Do not move.” Victor ordered and Derek stopped as Victor looked back at me.

“Then everything started disappearing.” He said.

“You chose this.” I said.

“I chose survival.” He said.

“No.” I said as I shook my head.

“You chose revenge.” I added and his face twisted.

“They took from me first.” He said.

“Who?” I asked and Victor hesitated and for the first time, uncertainty crossed his face.

“You wouldn’t understand.” He said.

“Then explain it.” I said.

“I don’t have to explain anything to you.” He said.

“You’re standing in a tunnel with nowhere to go.” I said and Victor laughed again.

“You think that means you have won.” He said.

“I know you have lost.” I said as his finger tightened around the trigger.

“You want me to surrender.” He said.

“Yes.” I said.

“I would rather die.” He said.

Derek moved and Victor fired.
