CHAPTER 242-2
The bullet struck the wall and Blake fired back as Victor stumbled.
His weapon fell from his hand and he grabbed his side as blood spread across his jacket, He
looked down in disbelief.
“You shot me.” Victor said as I kept my weapon trained on him.
“You fired first.” I said as Victor staggered backward and his hand pressed against the wound.
“You can’t do this.” Victor said.
“You did this to yourself.” I said.
He dropped against the wall and for a moment, he looked almost confused.
Then the sound of sirens echoed through the quarry and Victor looked toward the entrance.
“No.” Victor said as Derek lowered his weapon slightly.
“Police are here.” Derek said as Victor shook his head.
“They can’t take me.” Victor said.
“They can.” Derek said.
“They can’t.” Victor said as he tried to reach for the fallen gun and I kicked it farther away.
“Don’t.” I said as Victor stared at me.
“You think this ends everything?” Victor asked.
“No.” I said as I looked toward him.
“I think it ends you.” I said.
Police flooded into the quarry moments later.
Officers moved through the tunnel with weapons raised, while Sarah’s arrest outside had already
been communicated to the team and the lead officer shouted.
“Step away from the weapon!” The officer said and I stepped back.
Victor remained against the wall. His breathing was shallow and an officer approached carefully.
“Put your hands where I can see them.” The officer ordered.
Victor looked at me and for several seconds, he did nothing.

Then he slowly raised his hands and the officers moved in.

They secured his weapon and placed handcuffs around his wrists as Victor looked at me again.
“You think this makes you safe.” Victor asked as I stared at him.
“No.” I said and I glanced toward Derek.
“It makes everyone else safer.” I said as the officer checked Victor’s wound.
“He needs medical attention.” The officer said.
“Get him out.” I said and they lifted Victor carefully.
As they carried him toward the tunnel entrance, he looked back one final time.
The man who had spent months threatening us was finally being taken away.
No more speeches. No more attacks. No more escaping through another safe house.
The war was over and Derek lowered his weapon as he exhaled slowly.
“That was one hell of a night.” He said and I nodded.
“It was.” I said as Blake stepped closer.
“Victor’s alive.” Blake said and I looked toward the tunnel entrance.
“Good.” I said as Derek raised an eyebrow.
“You wanted him alive?” Derek asked.
“I wanted him to face what he did.” I said and Derek nodded.
“That makes sense.” Derek said.
Outside, the quarry had become a controlled crime scene.
Police vehicles filled the entrance and Black Reaper weapons were being collected.
Several former members had already surrendered and others were being questioned.
The Iron Vipers stood together near the motorcycles.
Nobody celebrated. Not yet. We were exhausted.
Some were wounded. Some were bruised and everyone had spent months waiting for this moment, and now that it had arrived, none of us seemed to know what to do with it. So Mason
walked toward me.
“Victor is being transported.” Mason said and I nodded.

“Where?” I asked.

“Hospital first, then custody.” He said.
“Good.” I said and Ethan approached with his phone.
“Sarah has been arrested.” Ethan said and I looked at him.
“Confirmed?” I asked.
“Yes.” He said.
“Anything else?” I asked.
“She admitted enough to confirm she was helping Victor.” He said as I closed my eyes briefly.
So much finally made sense. Every escape. Every warning. Every roadblock. Every moment Sarah seemed to know something before we did and Derek looked at me.
“The war’s over.” Derek said as I looked around the quarry.
For months, those words had felt impossible. Now they were real.
I pulled out my phone and there was one person I needed to call.
Paige answered before the first ring finished.
“Jace?” She asked but her voice was quiet and I smiled.
“I’m okay.” I said and she breathed out.
“You are okay?” She asked.
“I am.” I said.
“Where’s Victor?” She asked as I looked toward the police vehicles.
“He’s alive.” I said and Paige went silent.
“Is he arrested?” She asked.
“Yes.” I said and I heard her breathe again.
Then she laughed softly. It sounded like relief.
“It is over.” She said as I leaned against the side of my motorcycle.
“Yes.” I said.
“The war is actually over?” She asked.
