m going outside.” I said and we stepped out of Lawson Customs together.

The afternoon sun had begun to lower, and the road beyond the garage stretched quietly into the

distance.

I stood near the entrance and Emma and Sophia stayed beside me.

The children gathered behind us and nobody needed to say anything. We were waiting.

Minutes passed before we heard engines and my heart jumped.

One motorcycle appeared at the end of the road. Then another. Then another and the sound grew

louder.

The Iron Vipers were coming home and I could see Jace at the front of the convoy.

His vest was dusty. His clothes were dirty and his motorcycle carried fresh scratches.

However, he was upright. He was riding toward me.

Alive.

I didn’t wait for him to stop completely. Jace climbed off the motorcycle, and I crashed into his

arms.

He caught me immediately and I wrapped my arms around his neck and held him as tightly as I

could.

“You came home.” I said.

“I told you I would.” He said and I buried my face against his shoulder.

“You scared me.” I said.

“I know.” He said.

“You took too long.” I said and he laughed softly.

“I was trying to make an entrance.” He said as I pulled back and looked at him.

“You’re an idiot.” I said.

“I missed you too.” He said and I kissed him.

Behind us, the Iron Vipers began cheering and someone whistled.

Derek shouted something about giving us privacy, although he was laughing while he said it and I

pulled away and touched Jace’s face.

“You’re hurt.” I said.

“Nothing serious.” He said.

“You’re bleeding.” I said.

“It’s not mine.” He said and I frowned.

“Jace.” I said.

“I’m fine.” He said as I looked into his eyes.

“You had better be.” I said.

“I am.” He said and I hugged him again.

For several seconds, the rest of the world disappeared.

There was no Victor. No Black Reapers. No tunnels. No guns. No police.

There was only my husband standing in my arms and when we finally separated, the clubhouse families surrounded the Iron Vipers.

Children ran between the motorcycles and wives hugged their husbands and members clapped each other on the shoulders.

Someone started laughing. Someone else cried and the celebration spread through Lawson Customs, and for the first time in months, the garage was filled with joy instead of fear as Jace

looked around.

“This feels strange.” He said and I smiled.

“Good strange?” I asked.

“Very good strange.” He said as I slipped my hand into his.

“You earned it.” I said and he kissed my forehead and then his eyes narrowed slightly.

“What happened while I was gone?” He asked.

“Nothing.” I said and he looked at me.

“That sounded suspicious.” He said.

“It was not.” I said.

“Paige.” He said and I smiled.

“Fine.” He said.

We walked toward the others together and I could feel the secret inside me becoming heavier with

every passing minute.

I had promised myself I would tell him when he came home. Now he was home.

And soon, he would know but then I saw my father.

Charles was walking toward us from the parking area and he was carrying a thick folder.

The celebration around us continued, but Charles looked serious and Jace noticed him.

“What is that?” Jace asked as Charles stopped several feet away.

He looked at me and then at Jace.

“I need to speak with both of you.” Charles said and my stomach tightened.

“About what?” I asked as Charles looked down at the folder.

“This came from your mother’s things.” He said as Jace glanced at me.

I remembered the conversation from dinner. The folder Charles had mentioned before everything

went wrong.

The one with Michael Reeves’ name and my father’s expression told me this wasn’t going to be
