CHAPTER 244-2

Because it’s yours.” He said and I felt tears gathering in my eyes as he stepped closer.

“I’m not asking you to forgive me because I bought some land.” He said and I shook my head.

“You wouldn’t get forgiveness that easily.” I said.

“I know.” He said as his voice remained steady.

“I’m not asking for anything.” He added as he pointed toward the deed.

“This is not a bargain. It’s not an apology disguised as a gift.” He said as I looked at him.

“No. It’s not a way to make me forget what happened.” I said.

“No.” He said.

“Then what is it?” I asked as Charles took a breath.

“It’s simply the right thing to do.” He said and I stared at him.

For years, I had wanted my father to understand that loving someone didn’t mean controlling

them.

I had wanted him to see me as his daughter instead of someone who needed to be corrected.

I had wanted him to choose me when it mattered.

Now he was standing in front of me with the one thing I had never expected from him.

Not money. Not an apology. Not an excuse. An act that asked for nothing in return.

“You really mean this.” I said.

“I do.” He said and I looked at Jace and he gave me a small nod.

The decision was mine and I turned back toward Charles.

“Thank you.” I said as his eyes became glassy.

“You’re welcome.” He said and I stepped forward.

Then I stopped.

For years, touching my father had felt impossible. There had always been too much anger

between us. Too much disappointment. Too many memories of being ignored.

But tonight was different. I opened my arms and Charles froze.

Then he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around me.

The hug was awkward at first because neither of us seemed to know what we were doing. Then his arms tightened and I closed my eyes.

For the first time since I could remember, I felt my father hold me without trying to fix me.

He simply held me and I started crying.

So did he.

“I am sorry.” He whispered as I pressed my face against his shoulder.

“I know.” I said.

“I should have done better.” He said.

“Yes.” I said.

“I should have listened.” He said.

“Yes.” I said.

“I should have protected you.” He said and I pulled back slightly.

“You’re trying now.” I said and Charles nodded.

“I am.” He said and I looked at him.

“That matters.” I said as he wiped his face.

“It does?” He asked.

“Yes.” I said as Jace stepped closer and Charles looked at him.

“I’m sorry for everything I put you through too.” Charles said and Jace shook his head.

“We’re moving forward.” Jace said as Charles nodded.

“That’s all I want.” Charles said and I looked down at the property documents again.

“This could change everything for Lawson Customs.” I said.

“That’s why I bought it.” Charles said.

“We could expand the workshop.” I said.

“You could.” He said.

“We could add more bays.” I said.

CHAPTER 244 2

“You could.” He said.

“We could build storage.” I said.

“You could.” He said and I smiled.

“You have thought about this.” I said and Charles gave a small laugh.

“I may have spent too much time looking at your business plans.” He said.

“You did.” I said.

“I wanted to understand what you were building.” He said and my throat tightened,

“And now?” I asked.

“Now I want to watch you build it.” He said and I hugged him again.

This time, it felt easier and Jace smiled beside us.

For a moment, everything seemed complete.

The war was over. Victor was in custody. The Iron Vipers were home. My family was finally beginning to heal. Lawson Customs had room to grow.

And my father had finally done something that asked nothing from me.

It felt like a gift. Not because of the land but because of what it represented.

A choice. Acknowledgment. A beginning and I turned toward the garage.

“We should celebrate.” I said and Charles smiled.

“We should.” He said as Jace slipped an arm around my waist.

“I think we’ve earned that.” Jace said.

We walked toward the others and everyone was still celebrating, and nobody seemed to notice the quiet exchange that had just happened.

Emma was laughing with Sophia. Mason was telling one of the children a ridiculous story about his 1 motorcycle. Derek was pretending his injuries were much worse than they actually were.

The clubhouse felt alive. The garage was alive and for the first time, Lawson Customs felt like

more than a business.

It felt like home and I looked toward Charlotte.

She was standing near the edge of the workshop.
