CHAPTER 247-1
expected Jace to take me upstairs.

After everything that had happened at Lawson Customs that afternoon, after the award, the celebration, the hugs, and the constant interruptions, I thought he was finally going to take me back to my apartment and give us the privacy we had been trying to find all day.
Instead, he walked straight past the stairs. I frowned as he reached for his motorcycle keys.
“Where are we going?” I asked.
Jace glanced over his shoulder, and the smile on his face made me immediately suspicious.
“Somewhere.” He said.
“That’s not an answer.” I said.
“It’s the only answer you’re getting.” He said.
I folded my arms across my chest while he approached me.
“You realize that I’m your wife, right?” I asked.
“I’m aware.” He said.
“Then you should know that I hate surprises.” I said.
“And yet you married me anyway.” He said.
I tried not to smile, but I failed.
“You’re impossible.” I said.
“And you love me.” He said.
“I tolerate you.” I said.
He leaned down and kissed me before I could say anything else, and when he pulled away, his
expression softened.
“Come on, Paige. I want to take you somewhere.” He said.
Something in his voice made me stop arguing so I followed him outside.
A few minutes later, I was sitting behind him on his motorcycle, my arms wrapped around his waist while the familiar rumble of the engine vibrated beneath us.
The moment we left the clubhouse behind, something inside me relaxed.

The road opened in front of us, and Jace took us away from town, away from the workshop, away from the club, and away from every problem that had consumed our lives for so long.
We rode through the countryside for nearly an hour, and neither of us said much.
We didn’t need to.
The wind carried the smell of grass and earth around us, while the afternoon sun warmed my face.
Jace drove with one hand occasionally resting over mine where it was wrapped around his waist,
and every time he did, my heart squeezed.
I had spent so long waiting for the next disaster that peaceful moments still felt unfamiliar.
Maybe that was why I wanted to hold onto this one.
Our first stop was the lookout. The same lookout where Jace had brought me during one of our
earliest rides together.
I remembered sitting there with him, staring across the valley while pretending I wasn’t already falling for the man beside me.
I had been stubborn and he’d been patient. Neither of us had known how complicated our lives
were about to become.
Jace parked the motorcycle and helped me off.
I walked toward the railing, smiling when I recognized the view.
“You brought me here.” I said.
“I did.” He said.
“You remember?” I asked.
“I remember everything about that day.” He said and I looked at him.
“Everything?” I asked as his eyes settled on mine.
“You were pretending you didn’t like me.” He said.
“I didn’t like you.” I smirked.
“You kept looking at me.” He said.
“I was checking to see whether you were still annoying.” I said.
“And?” He asked.
“You were.” I said and he laughed as I stepped closer.

“I remember this place too.” I admitted as Jace wrapped an arm around my waist.
“remember thinking that I wanted more time with you.” I said and my smile faded slightly.
