can plan things.” He said.

“You usually plan explosions, raids, and motorcycle club meetings.” I said.

“Today is different.” He said.

We sat beside the lake, and for a while we simply watched the water.

Jace had brought food, although I suspected he had ordered most of it rather than prepared it

himself.

“You know, I am impressed.” I said.

“By the food?” He asked.

“By the fact that you remembered I like this place.” I said.

“I remember what matters to you.” He said and the words settled heavily in my chest so I reached

for his hand.

“So do I.” I said.

We stayed there until the sun began lowering toward the horizon.

Then Jace took me back onto the motorcycle and our final stop before sunset was a road that twisted through the countryside, bordered by tall trees and open fields.

Uncle Will’s favourite road and I recognized it immediately.

“This was his road.” I said as Jace nodded.

“I know.” He said as I looked toward the trees.

Uncle Will had been gone for years, but there were still moments when I expected to see him

leaning against his truck, grinning like he knew something everyone else didn’t.

“This place always felt like him.” I said as Jace squeezed my hand.

“Then I thought we should come here.” He said as I leaned against his shoulder.

“Thank you.” I said.

We stayed there until the sky began turning gold.

Eventually, Jace found another quiet stretch of road overlooking the valley, and we parked the

motorcycle.

We walked a short distance before sitting together on the grass.

The sunset spread across the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink.

I rested my head against Jace’s shoulder and for the first time in a long time, I felt completely still.

No fear. No anger. No fight waiting for us.

Just peace.

I knew I couldn’t keep the secret anymore.

My heart had been pounding since we left the clubhouse, and every mile had made the words feel heavier and Jace turned his head toward me.

“What are you thinking about?” He asked and I swallowed.

“Us.” I said and his expression softened.

“That sounds serious.” He said.

“It is.” I said and he shifted toward me.

“Paige, what’s wrong?” He asked,

“Nothing is wrong.” I said as I took a slow breath.

“I have been trying to tell you something all day.” I added and he immediately looked concerned.

“Then tell me.” He said and I reached for his hand and placed it between both of mine.

“Jace, I’m pregnant.” I said.

For several seconds, he simply stared at me. His eyes widened, and his mouth opened slightly as though his brain had stopped processing everything else.

Then he looked down at our joined hands and then back at me.

“You’re pregnant?” He asked and I nodded.

“Yes.” I said and a stunned laugh escaped him.

“You are serious?” He asked.

I laughed through the tears suddenly gathering in my eyes.

“I’m very serious.” I said.

He pulled me into his arms so quickly that I nearly lost my balance.

His arms tightened around me, and I felt him laugh against my hair.

CHAPTER 247 2

“We’re having a baby.” He said.

“Yes.” I said.

“Our baby.” He said.

“Yes, Jace.” I said.

He pulled back enough to look at me, and his eyes were shining.

“You’re going to make me a father.” He said.

“And you’re going to make me a mother.” I said.

He kissed me, slow and emotional, before resting his forehead against mine.

“I can’t believe this.” He said.

“I was terrified to tell you.” I said.

“Why?” He asked.

“Because everything has been so chaotic, and I didn’t want to give you another thing to worry about.” I said as his expression immediately changed.

“Paige, you could never be another thing to worry about.” He said and I smiled.

“I know.” I said.

He placed his hand carefully against my stomach.

“Can I?” He asked and I nodded.

His palm rested gently over my abdomen, and something about seeing him like that made my

heart ache in the best possible way.

“I love you.” He whispered.

“I love you too.” I said.

“And I already love this little person.” He said and I laughed softly.

“You don’t even know if it’s a boy or a girl.” I said.

“I don’t care.” He said as his smile widened.

“I just know that I want to be there for everything.” He added.

“You will be.” I said and he kissed my forehead.

“We’re going to be a family.” He said and the words made tears spill down my cheeks.
