Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 469

CHAPTER 248-2

What was he like?” I asked as George smiled.

“Stubborn.” He said and I laughed.

“That sounds right.” I said.

“He was also reckless, broke half the rules around here, and thought he knew more than everyone/

else.” George said.

“That definitely sounds right.” I said and George laughed.

“But he was one hell of a mechanic.” He said as I looked at him.

“He told me once that he wasn’t very good.” I said and George’s smile softened.

“Will never believed he was good enough.” George said and I frowned.

“What?” I asked.

“He could rebuild an engine with his eyes closed, but he always thought someone else could do it better.” He said as George walked toward an old toolbox.

“He spent years believing that he had to prove himself.” He added and my throat tightened.

“Why?” I asked.

“Because he thought being talented wasn’t enough.” He said as George opened the toolbox and

looked inside.

“He wanted to build something that would last.” He explained as I stared at the old tools.

“Lawson Customs.” I said.

“Exactly.” He said.

Jace stood quietly beside me and George continued.

“Will talked about that place constantly, even before he had the money to start it.” George said and

I smiled through the ache in my chest.

“He always loved that shop.” I said.

“He did.” George said as he looked at me.

“But there was one thing he talked about even more.” He added and I raised an eyebrow.

“What?” I asked.

“You.” He said and my smile disappeared.

“Me?” I asked and George nodded.

“Your uncle believed you were going to do things he never had the courage to do.” George said but

I shook my head.

“He never said that to me.” I said.

“He wouldn’t have.” He said.

“Why?” I asked.

“Because Will didn’t like making promises he couldn’t guarantee.” He said as George leaned against the workbench.

“But he believed in you anyway.” He added and my eyes burned.

“What did he say?” I asked as George smiled.

“He said you were stubborn enough to survive anything, smart enough to build something from nothing, and hardheaded enough to refuse anyone who tried to tell you what you couldn’t do.” He said and a laugh escaped me through my tears.

“That sounds like him.” I said.

“He also said you had something he never had.” George said as I wiped beneath my eye.

“What?” I asked.

“Someone to prove wrong.” He said and I laughed again as George smiled.

“He said every time somebody underestimated you, you would use it as fuel.” He explained as Jace wrapped an arm around my shoulders and I leaned into him.

“wish I could’ve heard him say that.” I said.

“I know.” Jace said as George walked toward the back wall.

“He talked about you whenever he could.” George said as I followed him.

There were photographs pinned to the wall, some so old that the edges had curled.

I recognized Uncle Will in several of them.

Young. Smiling. Covered in grease and standing beside motorcycles.

Living a life I had never known existed and George pointed toward one photograph.

“That’s Will at twenty-two.” He said and I smiled.

CHAPTER 248 2

“He looks happy.” I said.

“He was.” He said as George paused.

“Then life got complicated.” He added and I knew what he meant.

Uncle Will eventually left this place and built Lawson Customs, but whatever had happened afterward had followed him.

The journals. The investigation. The warehouse. The records. The people who had eventually

become connected to Victor.

For years, I had believed the secrets were all about criminals.

Now I understood that some of them were also about the man who had spent his life trying to

protect me.

“Did he ever regret leaving?” I asked and George shook his head.

“No.” George said as he looked directly at me.

“He told me leaving was the hardest decision he’d ever made, but he also said he’d do it again.” He

added.

“Why?” I asked.

“Because he wanted to build something that belonged to his family.” He said and my

tightened.

“His family.” I said and George nodded.

“He said that one day, you’d understand.” George said as I stared at the floor.

“I think I’m finally starting to.” I said as Jace squeezed my hand and George walked back toward

the old toolbox.

“There was something else he told me.” George said and I looked up.

“What?” I asked.

George opened the bottom drawer and he pulled out a small envelope.

My heart immediately started pounding.

The envelope was yellowed with age, and my name was written across the front.

PAIGE.

“What is that?” I asked as George held it carefully.
