Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 478
CHAPTER 252-1
couldn’t stop thinking about my father’s question.
Even after he left the workshop, even after Jace and I went upstairs, and even after I climbed into bed, those words stayed in my head.
Would you let me be your baby’s godfather?
I stared at the ceiling while Jace slept beside me.
The room was quiet, and for once there wasn’t an emergency waiting for us in the morning.
There wasn’t a club meeting. There wasn’t an enemy. There wasn’t another threat hanging over our
heads.
There was just a question.
And somehow, that question felt heavier than all the others.
I rolled onto my side and looked at Jace and he opened his eyes.
“You aren’t sleeping.” He said.
“Neither are you.” I said.
“I was.” He said.
“You were pretending.” I said and he smiled.
“You’ve been thinking about your dad.” He said and I sighed.
“Is it that obvious?” I asked.
“To me, yeah.” He said and I pulled the blanket higher.
“I don’t know what to do.” I said.
“You don’t have to decide tonight.” He said.
“I know.” I said as Jace reached for my hand.
“What does your gut say?” He asked and I stared at our joined hands.
“My gut says I want to forgive him.” I said and Jace nodded.
“Then maybe that’s your answer.” He said.
“It’s not that easy.” I said.

CHAPTER 252-1
“No, it isn’t.” He said as he squeezed my hand.
“But forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting.” He added and I looked at him.
“I know.” I said.
“It doesn’t mean what happened was okay.” He said.
“I know.” I said.
“It just means you don’t want the past deciding what happens next.” He said.
His words stayed with me long after he fell asleep again.
I didn’t sleep much.
By morning, I had made my decision. I just needed to make sure it was the right one.
So after breakfast, I drove to Uncle Will’s grave.
The cemetery was quiet, and the morning air was cool enough that I pulled my jacket tighter
around myself.

I walked through the rows until I reached his grave. I knelt and brushed a few leaves away from the
stone.
“Hey, Uncle Will.” I said as the words came naturally.
“I’ve got another problem.” I said as I smiled sadly.
“You’d probably laugh if you heard me say that.” I said as I sat down in front of the grave.
“My dad asked me if he could be one of the baby’s godfathers.” I continued before I paused.
“I don’t know why that scared me so much.” I continued.
The answer was probably obvious.
For years, Charles had represented every hurt I had carried from childhood. He had been the father who didn’t believe me. The father who chose Charlotte’s word over mine. The father who didn’t see what was happening right in front of him.
Even though things had changed, part of me was still that girl who had wanted him to choose her. So I looked at Uncle Will’s name.
“But things are different now. He apologized. He didn’t ask me to forget anything. He just wants to be there.” I said as I took a slow breath and the wind moved through the trees.
I closed my eyes and then I remembered his letter.
