CHAPTER 255-1

motorcycles started arriving before sunrise.

One by one, headlights appeared along the road outside the clubhouse, followed by the familiar rumble of engines.

I stood near the clubhouse entrance with Jace, one hand resting over my stomach as I watched

the Iron Vipers gather.

There was something different about the morning.

Nobody was rushing. Nobody was shouting. Nobody was checking weapons or discussing

threats.

The war was over.

For once, the motorcycles weren’t gathering because somebody needed protection.

They were gathering because George had asked everyone to ride.

One final ride.

A memorial ride for Uncle Will and for the Iron Vipers who had been lost over the years and Jace

glanced down at me.

“You sure you’re comfortable?” He asked.

“I’m fine.” I said.

“You’ve said that before.” He said and I smiled.

“And I was fine then too.” I said.

He looked at my stomach.

“You aren’t riding your bike.” He said and I immediately frowned.

“Excuse me?” I asked.

“You’re riding with me.” He said.

“Jace.” I said.

“No.” He said.

“I can ride.” I said.

“I know you can.” He said.

“Then what’s the problem?” I asked.

“The problem is that you’re heavily pregnant, and I’m not taking the chance that you lose your balance.” He said as I crossed my arms.

“I’ve been riding motorcycles for years.” I said.

“And you’re going to keep riding for years, but today you’re sitting behind me.” He said as I stared at

him.

“You realize I could just take my own bike.” I said.

“You could.” He said.

“Then why are you telling me I can’t?” I asked.

“Because I’m your husband, and I’m allowed to worry about you.” He said.

I tried to stay annoyed. I really did. Then he leaned down and kissed my forehead.

“I’m not trying to control you.” He said.

“I know.” I said.

“I’m trying to bring you home safely.” He said and I sighed.

“Fine.” I said and his smile appeared immediately.

“But I’m driving.” He said.

“I know. And if you start driving too fast, I’m jumping off.” I said and he laughed.

“That’s exactly what I’m trying to prevent.” He said as I rolled my eyes.

“You are impossible.” I said.

“And you’re riding with me.” He said.

“Apparently.” I said as Jace helped me onto the back of his motorcycle, and I settled carefully

behind him.

The moment my arms wrapped around his waist, I felt him relax.

The rest of the Iron Vipers lined up behind us and George stood near the front of the group, wearing his old riding jacket and holding his helmet beneath one arm.

He looked around at everyone.

“Today isn’t about where we’re going. It’s about who we’re remembering.” He said and the group became silent. George looked toward me.

“Will was one of the best men I’ve ever known, and he never stopped believing that the people around him could become something better. So today, we ride for him.” He said and I nodded.

“And we ride for everyone else we’ve lost along the way.” I said and Jace started his engine.

The motorcycles roared to life one after another.

The sound rolled across the countryside and I smiled. Then we pulled away.

The road opened in front of us, and the convoy moved through the countryside in a long line of

motorcycles.

The morning sun climbed higher, casting golden light over the fields.
