Everyone sitting at our table turned to look at me, their brows raised in question.

I sighed, looking towards the stage, my eyes focused on the tall, intimidating man in a black suit sitting in the decorated

chair.

“What are you saying?” Archie scoffed, patting the carton of fruit juice he brought in his bag before handing it to me. “We’re here to support Alvise.”

And that was exactly why I didn’t want to be here. Today made it a week since Henry’s death, and a week since I last left the house unless it was for work.

Archie caught on to that and decided to drag me here today. It was the opening ceremony of a tech company Alvise founded, and today was all about celebrating him.

I snorted, throwing a grape into my mouth. Celebrate him? I wanted to smash my purse over his head.

The hall was packed, and there were many faces I recognised as very important people. For the last hour, I had to watch influential people from all walks of life kiss Alvise’s ass, basically.

From movie stars, musicians, politicians to businessmen. They all clustered around him, fighting for his attention.

It was then that it started to feel real to me once again. He wasn’t just any man; he was Alvise Valerio. And apparently, that was a very big deal.

“Why do you suddenly look so angry?” Sierra whispered, poking my arm to catch my attention.

She was right. I was furious, but it was driven more by guilt. It didn’t feel right that I was here, celebrating the man I suspected was behind my friend’s death. Could I even call Henry my friend? I had no idea.

Accusing Alvise of Henry’s murder was intense, especially because his death hadn’t even been confirmed as murder. A part of me screamed that I’d lost my mind and was now making things up… But my gut feeling told me I could be onto something.

It was stupid, really. Alvise wasn’t a killer. He was my brother’s best friend, a normal guy. So, why did I still suspect him? Even if it was only a little bit.

“You’re biting your lip so hard I fear you’ll bite it off,” Sierra said, slapping my thigh.

I glanced at her, “You’re really dramatic.”

“I learnt that from you.”

I smiled. The first genuine smile I could muster in the past one week.

“That dress….” Francesca pointed at me from her seat at the table, “It’s quite grand, considering you didn’t want to come in the first place.” She watered her spiteful words down with a light laugh.
