then Sierra? She would insist I move into her apartment, but that would mean intruding because she had a boyfriend.
I groaned in frustration and collapsed onto the bed, trying to stop my mind from suggesting Alvise.
He would never help me out.
And I myself had no idea what kind of help I even wanted to ask for.
I didn’t sleep a wink that night because I spent every second consumed by fear.
Fear of the unknown.
With my face cap pulled too low and a nose mask covering most of my face, I strolled through the aisles of the grocery store, picking out everything I needed before going to the counter to pay.
I’d survived on nothing but the snacks I’d brought from Archie’s apartment and had eventually ended up in desperate need of actual food, so I decided to come to the grocery store.
Of course, I had to camouflage myself so no one would recognize me.
After paying, I exited the grocery store and got into the waiting cab with my bags
My phone ringing made me pause as I pulled out a grape from the bag to munch on. My heart skipped its next beat when I heard the phone ringing from inside my bag.
I’d finally turned on my phone yesterday, but I completely disconnected the internet so I wouldn’t log in even if it happened by accident.
Tired of hiding, I finally pulled open the bag and took out my phone.
It was a call from Francesca.
I groaned, irritated and overwhelmed just by the sight of her name, but, just for the sake of it, I answered the call.
“You finally picked up.” She mocked. “I thought you were going to keep your phone turned off forever.”
“What do you want?” I questioned, getting straight to the point.
“We need to talk in person.”
I chuckled, the sound filled with disbelief. “You want me to meet up with you? It’s not happening.”
“Oh, but it is.” Francesca taunted, determination evident in her voice.
An awkward silence seemed to overtake the call, leaving me waiting for the right moment to speak. It never came, so I said, “Why are you so sure I’d come to see you?”
Francesca scoffed. “Because it’s either that or you lose your brother.”
I straightened in my seat, her words sending waves of fear through my entire body.
No.
I didn’t joke when it came to my brother. She could threaten me all she wanted, but he was off-limits.

“What are you implying by ‘lose”?” I yelled. “I already warned you before not to mess with him…”

Chill out!” Francesca interrupted. “I don’t mean physically. If you don’t show up, I’ll reveal everything to him myself.”
I blinked. “Everything?”
“Yes.” She admitted. “So don’t test me.”
“So, this is no longer about Alvise? You asked me to stay away from him, and I did. That was our only agreement. What is this now?”
“Change of plans.” Francesca said nonchalantly. “And spare me the monologue. I’ll send the address and time now.” She said before ending the call.
I’d learned the hard way never to underestimate my gut feeling.
Over the last couple of weeks, it had proved to be the one thing I could count on, so when I suddenly started feeling/ uncomfortable and on high alert, I just knew I had to be careful.
But now, even though my gut feeling desperately told me not to go see her, my need to protect my brother and our already strained relationship was stronger.
So, reluctantly, I breathed, “Fine. Send the address.”

To Meet With An Enemy
ARABELLA’S POV
Why would Francesca want me to meet her at an old parking lot?
My gaze dropped to the rough floor, the grease sticking to every corner as I walked past the damaged cars.

I clutched my purse tightly against my abdomen, looking around and memorizing as much of the place as could.
“You’re finally here.”
I flinched, jerking my head up to see Francesca leaning against an old car. My eyes trailed down her body, scanning her leather pants and jacket.
When I looked back up, she was still staring at me, a coy smile on her lips. I cleared my throat and refused to move any farther, keeping the distance between us. “I’m here now, so what do you want?”
Francesca tilted her head back and laughed. It was dark, psychotic, and bitter. “You still don’t get it, do you? You’re in a lot of trouble.”
My fingers turned damp, trembling slightly as her words registered in my head.,
No. She was just trying to scare me.
I looked around one more time at the empty parking lot and tried to calm myself down.
Everything would be alright.
“I have to go soon, Francesca. Don’t beat around the bush.”
“Shut up, you brat! I can see that despite everything that’s been happening, you’re still sane enough to talk back to me.”
My brows drew together. What did she mean by that?
I rubbed my palms together, trying to ignore the uneasy feeling crawling beneath my skin.
I’d rarely seen Francesca since Henry’s death, and I hadn’t thought much of it until now. Under normal circumstances, there was no way she would have let that happen without taunting me first.
But she never did. Why had she waited so long?
“Okay, I’m bored.”
I looked up to see her glaring at me. “This is supposed to be fun. We wanted it to be fun.”
My blood ran cold in my veins, and I swallowed hard. “We?””
She smiled. “Oh. I don’t think I’ve introduced you to my new friend, have I?”
New friend?
I took a step back, my pulse quickening as alarm shot through me. I had a bad feeling about this.
I shouldn’t have come here.
“Don’t you think it’s too late for that?”

I snapped my head around so fast, it nearly detached from my body. Blinking rapidly, I prayed I was seeing a ghost.
ad to be seeing a ghost.
“Tatiana?” I whispered in disbelief.
What was Tatiana doing here?
The realization settled heavily in my stomach, forming a tight knot that made it difficult to breathe.
“You both know each other?” My voice was a hoarse whisper. “How?”
Gray eyes, full of bitterness, pierced mine as Tatiana walked closer. She stopped right in front of me and looked me up and down with open contempt. “Ever heard of a common enemy, bitch?
Fear coursed through me, so powerful it robbed me of every thought except one: run.
I sidestepped her and bolted, running as fast as I could to escape.
I didn’t get far before strong hands gripped me, roughly pulling me up and dragging me back toward the two evil women.
I thrashed, hit him, and dug my nails into his body, but the guard, or whoever he was to them, never let me go.
He threw me at Tatiana’s feet before walking back to his post.
He wasn’t there when I came, so did that mean he had arrived with Tatiana?
She crouched down to my eye level and sighed. “If I knew this is what it took to shut you up, I would have done so much sooner.”
“Why are you doing this?” I asked, my voice pleading. “What have I ever done to you…?”
“You like my fiancé, fool.” She snapped, interrupting me. “Have your ears been blocked whenever we’ve had conversations?”
Of course, this was about Alvise.
I’d known it was coming. After Alvise made her stay in the backseat, she looked furious. Now she’d decided to take it out on
It was always ME.
I scoffed, though it only worsened the turmoil twisting inside me. “So, you joined forces with her…” I glanced at Francesca, who stood leaning against the wall, watching us. “And you think she doesn’t like your fiance?”
Tatiana’s glare faltered for a moment before she quickly composed herself.
That confirmed it.
She wasn’t aware Francesca liked Alvise. Like was a mild word compared to what it actually was.
She wasn’t even obsessed with him… There was no word descriptive enough for her mental psychosis over him.
“Shut up, Arabella.” Francesca ordered, walking closer to us. “You are now lying just to cause trouble between us so you can escape.”
She turned to Tatiana, who had gone eerily quiet. “She’s trying to be smart. Don’t let her get to you.”
Tatiana nodded. “I know. This is not the first time she’s tried to play games with my head.”

She shared a look with Francesca before standing to her full height.
Was told you’ve fucked Alvise before. How true is that?”
My ears rang at her question, the words destabilizing me.
If she knew Alvise and I had been intimate before… that meant Francesca had been talking to her.
But… just how much did she know?
The knot in my stomach grew tighter, making me shift uncomfortably.
The pictures… Tatiana couldn’t know about them.
If she did, I was as good as dead.
She would use them to torment me, manipulate me, and turn me into her little puppet.
“Your new ally told you the story, right?” I gritted my teeth. “So why don’t you ask her?”
She tsked and sighed dramatically. “I’m trying to help you here.”
“You’re not trying to help me,” I spat.
“Well, yes, you’re right.” Tatiana laughed. “But I’m trying to make things better a little bit.”

She snapped her fingers together in the direction of the guard before looking back at me. “I just want to make sure I’m not punishing an innocent person. That’s why it’s important to verify.” She shrugged. “Just like we’re going to verify my sister’s claims that she’s innocent.”
My head jerked up, her words registering immediately. “Your sister?”
My breath caught.
Muffled screams coming from behind me made me turn around.
My eyes widened, my heart slamming against my ribs as I watched the guard drag what I assumed was Viktoriya toward us.
Her hands and legs were tied with ropes, and her mouth was taped shut.
I shot my confused gaze back at Tatiana and stared at her, fear and disbelief twisting together inside me. “You did that to your own sister?”
Her eyes flashed with a flicker of rage. “I haven’t even started.”
