Saved Me

fried my face in his shoulder and sobbed uncontrollably, confusion and fear gripping me tightly as I desperately tried to make sense of everything that had happened. I stayed like that until there were no tears left to cry and all my strength had drained away.

Alvise began walking with me wrapped around him. A few moments later, he sat down in what seemed to be my armchair. 1 finally lifted my head from his shoulder and sniffled, my eyes searching his as I stared at the man before me. This couldn’t be real.

“You’re really here,” I whispered, but winced at the sound of my own voice. I barely recognized it.

He simply nodded and leaned back in the chair, watching me in silence. A fresh wave of confusion crashed over me. I couldn’t understand how I’d gotten home… or why he was here.

I looked down at myself. I was wearing my white pajamas. My brows knitted together. “Where are my clothes?”

Alvise brushed his thumb along his jaw. “What clothes?”

“My work clothes.” I blinked. “Where… where are they?”

He didn’t answer. Alarm shot through me, and I quickly climbed to my feet, looking around the room as panic settled in. I felt like I was losing my mind. “How did I get here?” I demanded.

He remained silent, simply watching me. I let out a frustrated groan. “Alvise, I’m going crazy!” I yelled. “Please… just tell me what happened.”

He stroked his chin and tilted his head slightly. “I don’t know.”

I stared at him. “What do you mean you don’t know? You… you brought me here, didn’t you?”

He didn’t answer immediately. The room fell into an uncomfortable silence as we stared at each other without a word.

After what felt like forever, he finally spoke. “I kept calling you, but you never answered. I didn’t stop trying until someone finally picked up.” He paused briefly. “It was a police officer. They told me you’d been involved in a crash and asked me to come to the scene. When I got there, I found you sitting in a waiting ambulance.”

He paused again before continuing. “They examined you. Fortunately, you hadn’t suffered any physical injuries, but you were in shock. That’s why you lost consciousness. Once they cleared you, I brought you home.”

My eyes widened as I took in every word. His face remained completely expressionless, giving nothing away. I had so many questions, but there was one that bothered me more than anything else.

Heat slowly crept into my cheeks. “Um…” I hesitated. “How did I… get into my pajamas?”

“I put you in them, Arabella,” Alvise answered matter–of–factly.

I choked on my own breath, coughing uncontrollably as I stared at him in disbelief. “You….” I pointed an accusing finger at him. “You undressed me?”

He looked completely unfazed as he spread his legs farther apart in the armchair and settled more comfortably.

I stared at him in confusion. “What are you trying to say?” I asked. “Why are you being so condescending?”

“And there you fucking go again.” He took a slow step closer to me before leaning down until we were eye level. “Look me in my fucking eyes and tell me you didn’t see me pull up outside your company today.”

My eyes widened. He’d seen me. That meant… “You saw me leave with Jude?”

“Don’t answer my fucking question with another question,” he hissed. “Answer me.”

I swallowed hard. “Yes,” I mumbled.

He shook his head and straightened to his full height. “I can’t even say I’m surprised.” His jaw tightened. “What the hell were you thinking?” he asked coldly. “Humor me.”

I’d never seen Alvise this furious before. Not once. Every word that left his mouth cut deeper than the last. “I… I didn’t know,” I whispered before a sob escaped my lips.

Without another word, Alvise walked to the far end of the room, putting as much distance between us as possible. Before 1 could process what he was doing, he grabbed the reading lamp from my desk and hurled it against the wall.

The crash made me flinch violently. I gasped, my heart hammering in my chest.

Before I could recover from the shock, he turned to me, fury blazing in his eyes. “Let ine fucking guess,” he spat. “You saw the fucking Lamborghini and thought you’d found another rich man to fuck and manipulate.”
