ARABELLA’S POV
“Thank you,” I said, forcing a smile and clasping my hands together.

They looked shocked that I was suddenly speaking to them and shared a surprised look between themselves.
“You don’t have to thank us, madam,” the older woman said. “Your handsome husband pays us!”
Her daughter nodded. “Yes!” She giggled and bit her lip. “And he’s very handsome.”
Her mother slapped her on the arm. “Don’t make madam angry with you. He’s her husband!”
I watched their little scene absentmindedly, as I was too busy planning the perfect escape, one that would go unnoticed for a significant amount of time, so I’d have the chance to get far away before anyone raised an alarm.
“Can I use the bathroom?” I blurted, cutting their argument off.
“Sure, yes, you can.” The young girl said, grabbing my hand and trying to pull me out of the room.
“Wait!” Her mother said, worry flitting across her eyes, as though she could see right through my act. “Let me take her!”
My stomach twisted uncomfortably, the realization that my tiny chance of escape was about to be snatched away making a tight knot form in my gut.
“No, mama!” The girl argued, pulling me toward the door. “I’ll take her myself! You just wait here.”
Sighing in relief, I wasted no time and rushed out of the room with her. “Thank you. I prefer you taking me rather than your mother,” I said with a smile. “I’m more comfortable around you.”
The girl grinned. “I understand. My mom is older and can be a bit intimidating.”
We stopped in front of a door, and she pointed at it. “The restroom is in here.”
Eager for her to leave, I mumbled, “Thank you…. can you please get me the hand sanitizer I saw in the room just now?…” I trailed off, quickly thinking of the perfect lie. “I need it because…”
“No need to explain yourself, dear! I’ll go get it,” she said, walking away.
“Thank you!”
Once she was out of sight, I looked around, and my eyes landed on the back door. I was about to rush toward it when I suddenly remembered that I wasn’t with my phone.
I’d dropped it on the dresser when I was being forced into the bridal dress.
My shoulders sagged, and panic swirled through me. I couldn’t go anywhere without a phone if I didn’t want to end up stranded.

And I also had no money on me.
Nad to at least have a phone.

Ready to risk it all, I walked back in the direction of the dressing room, my heartbeat growing faster with every step I took.
The door was open halfway, and before I could grip the doorknob and push it open further, heard muffled voices coming from inside and stopped to listen.
“She’s trying to run away! Why did you give her the chance to?”
“I know, Mother. She’s not fooling me.”
“Then why did you leave her there? You’re going to get us in trouble.”
“She’s a dumb woman, mother.” The girl snorted. “She’s marrying the richest and most powerful man in Moscow, and she wants to run away? Let her, mama!”
“Raisa! What has gotten into you?”
“You know I like the Pakhan! And now, maybe this is my chance. He’s no longer with that evil Tatiana.” Raisa giggled. “And now this one wants to leave. This is my chance, mama!”
Her words rubbed me the wrong way, and they brought a hint of hesitation steaming through my mind, but I shook it away.
If she wanted him… she could have him.
I opened the door wider and rushed in, moving to grab my phone from the dresser without looking at any
of them.
Raisa cleared her throat. “Sorry, madam, I was looking for the sanitizer…”
“It’s right there.” I pointed to the shelf at the far end. “I’m sure you can see it.”
Her mother walked up to me. “Sorry, madam, she…”
I forced a smile. “It’s fine. I’ll take it.”
I grabbed the sanitizer on my way out of the room and rushed out, practically sprinting through the hallway.
At least I was sure none of them would raise an alarm since they wanted me gone.
I stopped in front of the back door and opened it, surprised to find that it was actually unlocked. I stepped out to peek through, but my breath caught in my throat when I saw a troop of guards outside, with guns strapped to their waistbands and their eyes on high alert, scanning every corner.
How was I going to escape without getting noticed?
It seemed impossible, and just when I tried taking a leap of faith, someone cleared their throat from behind me, making me jump and immediately drawing the attention of the guards.

My stomach twisted, and my fingers flexed as the sharp eyes from outside glared at me, some of the men walking closer and gesturing for me to go back inside. “You can’t be outside now, madam.”
Bul didn’t dare turn.
I would rather face the wrath of the men holding guns than turn back to look at the man behind me.
The hairs on my nape stood, confirming that it was exactly who I suspected it was.
“Are you going somewhere?” he asked, his words calm but his tone so harsh that I flinched.
Seconds flew by, and the silence stretched on, suffocating me.
“I asked you a fucking question.”
I held my breath and turned around, meeting the angry depths of blue eyes glaring at me.
“Alvise, I…”
“You were trying to run away,” he breathed in disbelief, a muscle ticking in his jaw.
My shoulders sagged, and I tangled my fingers together “You don’t understand. I…”
Alvise tilted his head to the side and scoffed. “I don’t understand that you wanted to escape after I explicitly told you this marriage must take place?”
I opened my mouth to answer him, but he shook his head. “Save it.” His eyes flashed with anger and disappointment, and the intensity of it made my chest feel heavy.
He looked behind me. “Igor! Simeon!”
The two guards rushed to stand beside me, saying at the same time, “Pakhan!”
Alvise turned around and spoke over his shoulder. “Is the magistrate ready?”
Igor answered, “Yes, Pakhan.”
Walking ahead, Alvise nodded. “Then let’s get the fucking marriage over with.”
