ARABELLA’S POV
No.
How could he be dead? I couldn’t move or look away from his lifeless body, my brain refusing to register everything that had happened and leaving me shocked and helpless.
I saw it before I saw him.
Alvise’s dark shoes came into view beside the man’s dead body, but I still refused to look up.
I couldn’t.
I heard hushed murmurs and loud gasps break out across the hall, making me flinch and finally snapping me out of my trance.
“Take his body out of the hall.”
I looked up, my eyes landing on Alvise as he gave his guards the order.
Slowly, I let my gaze trail down to his hands, and just like I suspected, he was holding the gun.
He killed him.
“Why… Did you do it?” I breathed, staring at him in disbelief, wondering why he would do such a thing and, worse, in the middle of a gala.
I could feel everyone’s eyes on us, but I wasn’t ready to acknowledge it yet. So, I just kept my full attention on the man in front of me.
The devil.
“Is that a question you really want to ask me?” Alvise asked, walking until he was right in front of me.
“Yes! Why are you so quick to use a gun? What did he do…”
“What did he do?” Alvise seethed, cutting me off, his eyes sparking with rage. “He put his fucking hands on you, and then he kissed you!”
I flinched, taking a step back, the harshness of his voice sending rippling jolts of fear through my body.
He was enraged.
“You don’t have anything to say anymore?” Alvise swiped his thumb over his bottom lip. “Don’t close that sharp mouth on me now, Arabella. I’m going to need you to start fucking talking.”
I’d been too stunned to remember that the man had kissed me on the cheek and completely forgotten. about that after hearing the gunshot.
It had taken me off guard, and he was weird and wrong for doing that, but… that didn’t warrant his death.

I held Alvise’s gaze, shaking my head, the guilt making my fingers flex. “You killed a man for kissing me?”
Jaw hardened. “Did you just hear what you fucking asked me? You’re my wife.” He gritted, his hands balling into fists at his sides, so hard I could see the veins on the backs of his hands pop up. “No one gets to fucking kiss you!”
I glared at him, the sight of him barely controlling his anger only making mine worse.
“You have no right, Alvise,” I whispered harshly. “No right. Certainly not after you let your ‘baby’ rub her hands all over you just now.”
His eyes narrowed. “Tatiana didn’t kiss me…”
“I don’t even care if she dropped to her knees and licked your feet,” I shot back. “I don’t fucking care! So do the same thing and stop killing anyone that lays a hand on me.” I took a step back. “Your double standards make me sick.”
I expected a harsh retort, or Alvise ordering me out after all I said, but he just stood there, watching me, his eyes piercing into my soul with each second that passed.
His calm demeanor didn’t fool me.
My heartbeat sped up when my gaze landed on his hard jaw, then his hands that were now red from how tightly he fisted them.
He was so pissed that he was physically struggling to control it.
I swallowed and looked away.
“Oh,” I gasped when my head hit someone’s hard back. “Sorry.”
I glanced around, gasping in surprise when I realized that the guards had formed some sort of circle around us with their bodies, keeping us out of view of the people present.
“Do you want to know something?”
My stomach twisted, and I looked up, meeting Alvise’s harsh gaze. “What?”
He grabbed my wrist and yanked me forward. “You’ve crossed the line.”
“I’ve crossed the line?” I chuckled sarcastically. “ME? How’s what happened any different from what you were doing with Tatiana? Oh, wait, it’s actually different because, unlike you, I was actually taken by surprise. I didn’t know he was going to kiss me!”
“But he did,” Alvise retorted. “And you stood there and took it.”
“Like I just told you, I was too shocked to move!”
He scraped his tongue over his teeth, his grip on my wrist feeling like a burning handcuff. “I don’t care for the details, Arabella. It doesn’t change the fact that you let another man near you.”
“What the hell are you even pissed about? You killed him…”
“And I’ll kill him again.” Alvise promised, a dark look crossing his face. “Again and again, until he will

remember never to touch you in his next life.”
Neered my head towards his hand around my wrist. “Let me go.”
With a calmness that riled me up, he said firmly, “No.”
“Don’t tell me no! You disrespected me, and now you think you can be the one to act pissed?” I snickered..
Alvise released his grip on my wrist and slipped a hand into his pocket. “How did I disrespect you?”
I folded my arms. “You claim that I’m your ‘wife, but you let Tatiana do what she did while you stood idly. taking it and not telling her to stop.”
A muscle in his jaw twitched. “And what makes you so sure that I didn’t stop her?”
“I don’t care what you ended up doing. For more than ten seconds, you let her, and that alone tells me all I
need to know.”
“And what did it tell you?” he snapped.
I smiled, though I was practically boiling with anger inside. “That you only use the marriage card when it suits you. And you know what? I don’t give a fuck,” I said, my voice coming out stronger than I felt. “Keep playing the games, Alvise. Keep it up.” I stepped into his personal space, rising onto my tiptoes in my heels so we were almost eye level. “But let me make one thing fucking clear. Whatever you do, I’ll do it right back.”
His eyes flared and darkened. “Watch your tongue.”
Ignoring him, I continued. “There are so many men here, right?” I bit my lip, intentionally drawing his eyes towards them. “So go on, let Tatiana touch you again. I’m happy to go tit for tat.”
