“So… what’s the way forward? Do you want us to edit it?”

“I want it cancelled,” he said nonchalantly. “It should be redone and sent back here before the week runs out

No…

My stomach twisted uncomfortably, my pulse quickening at what he was implying.

I couldn’t go back to the office and tell them this. They already disliked the fact that I was the one communicating with him.

If I told them he wanted the plan cancelled and redone, they’d only hate me more and pin the blame on me.

“But…” I trailed off, choosing my words carefully. “Isn’t that too soon?”

Alvise raised a brow. “No, it’s not. Relay this to your team.”

With a hard tug in my chest, I stood up and grabbed my purse. “Okay, I will,” I said, then turned to leave.

“Where are you going?” he asked, stopping me.

I turned around, cc confused. “Back to work…?”

He poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue. “Why?”

My brows drew together. “I thought we were done here.”

Alvise stroked his chin, his jaw hardened. “Sit down, Arabella.”

When my brother told me Alvise was a beast when it came to work, I’d greatly underestimated just how true that statement

was.

I’d spent the whole day in Alvise’s office, working. There were no breaks, not a single one. We went over project files, his expectations for the merger, things he needed fixed, and several other details I struggled to remember.

“I think I’m going to faint,” I announced, tossing my pen onto his desk and leaning back in my chair.

“That’s quite an exaggerated statement,” Alvise said dryly, his eyes fixed on his computer.

“How are you still working?” I asked, stunned. “It’s literally 7:00 p.m.”

He looked at me briefly. “And?”

“Isn’t this, like… I don’t know… when normal human beings call it a day?” I asked, staring at him like he was crazy. I’d figured out by now that he actually was.

He didn’t respond and simply resumed typing.

Huffing out a breath, I stood and walked toward the large glass windows. He’d only turned off the privacy screen a few minutes ago.

I gasped as I stared outside, the city’s skyline now blurred beneath a blanket of dark clouds. “It’s going to rain,” I murmured, panic erupting inside me. I needed to book a ride, otherwise, I’d be stranded.

I rushed back to the desk, grabbed my purse, and pulled out my phone. “I’ll have to go now. Goodnight,” I said as I hurried toward the door.

“Arabella?” Alvise’s voice stopped me, prompting me to turn around.

“Where are you going?”

I frowned. “The weather… It’s going to rain.”

His eyes narrowed. “And?”

I blinked, confused by the question. “And so I have to go. Like, right now,” I said, turning back around and pulling the door open.

“Get back inside,” Alvise said, his tone firm.

I turned to look at him, feeling like I needed to pull my hair out.

Unfazed by my irritated glare, he stood and slipped his hands into his pockets.

“Now why are you stopping me?” I snapped, finally losing my patience.

His eyes narrowed, his usual coldness seeping back into his voice. “That tone, Arabella. Watch it.”

I opened my mouth to speak, a snarky retort on the tip of my tongue, but froze when he stalked toward me, stopping only a step away.

“Say what you want to say,” he challenged. “I dare you.”

I rolled my eyes but didn’t cuss him out like I wanted to.

“I’m done with work for today already, right?”

s you are,” he confirmed.

I folded my arms. “So why can’t I go home?”

“I never said you couldn’t,” he replied nonchalantly.

“But I need to book a ride now before it rains,” I snapped, the annoyance clear as day in my voice.

Alvise looked completely unfazed. “You don’t need to book a ride.”
