Sacrificed To My Sister's Mate novel Chapter 10

< Chapter 10: Old Habits

“It’s that, or I wake everyone up,” Jay said, and I sighed as I walked downstairs, and he followed me.

“We are taking my car,” he said, and i didn’t oppose him but just did as he said.

The entire ride to the city was him driving and the soft relaxing music playing in the background.

We first went to the hospital where I handed in my resignation letter.

Then to my apartment where I found the mover already started with the process of packing.

“Where are you taking all of this?” Jay asked me.

“A storage room,” I answered, and he nodded.

I packed up the clothes that I will be using for now.

I put them in the car and then we had breakfast before driving to the beach.

“I understand,” Jay said, and I looked at him confused, and he just smiled.

“After you left, mom started training me as the future Coven leader. She told me that she modified the schedule for me because I couldn’t handle your schedule,” he said, and I looked at him.

“I woke up at 5 am. every day for training, and it was still hard. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for you,” he explained, and I smiled.

“I am glad she was lenient with you,” I said, and he shook his head.

“I think she was scared that she might also drive me away. So that is why she was like that,” he explained, and I just shrugged.

“Nothing I do is good enough. She compares me to you all the time,” he said and chuckled bitterly.

“In her eyes, you were never good enough, but you are better than me,” he said, and I looked at him.

“I am sorry that I left you to suffer on your own like that. I had to think of me,” I said, and he shook his head.

“Don’t ever apologize for it. It actually made me admire you more. To think that you started such training at only 10 years old. It was admirable and also angering,” he said, and I looked at him confused.

“The fact that a mother would such a thing to her own child,” he explained, and I nodded.

“All I am saying is that I understand wanting to cut ties with our family,” he added.

“I am sorry, I know it means cutting ties with you and Dad as well, and everyone,” I said, and he nodded.

“Just call and text. Just stay in contact so I know you are okay” he said, and I nodded.

“And be free, love, and laugh. You probably have never had a serious boyfriend since Mom never let you date,” he added.

I wanted to correct him and tell him that I never had a boyfriend, but that would be oversharing with my younger brother.

“I will, I promise,”I said, and he smiled at this.

Flashback

I woke up at 3 am like always and went on a run and then joined my mother on the training grounds.

“Today, I will be teaching you how to kill people even in the blindspots,” she said, and I frowned.

“You mean spots that I can’t see? How will I know they are there if I can’t see them?” I asked her.

“People think that werewolves and vampires are blessed with senses greater than ours,” she said and then shook her head.

“But witches have senses greater than theirs. Because magic is everywhere, it’s in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the ground we walk on. It’s everywhere,” she added.

“Today, you will learn how to do so,” she said, and I nodded.

The training started, and I found myself on the ground.

“It’s not possible,” I said, and she frowned at this.

“Get up and train,” she said, and I nodded and tried again and again until I couldn’t stand.

After that I went to school and it was probably the best day of my life.

A guy I had a major crush on asked me out on a date.

I was 15 at the time, so going on a date with a crush was all girls my age wanted.

“Will your Mom agree?” Addison, my best friend asked me, and I nodded.

“I have been training hard the past few days. And you know what they say, ‘all work and no play made Jack a dull boy,” I said, and Addison nodded.

“Tell me what she says, ” Addison said as she ran up to her home and I went to mine. The large mansion doors made my heart tighten up at the thought of walking inside them.

Will she agree?

She wasn’t happy with my training today.

“You are back, kiddo,” Dad said as he hugged me and took my school bag.

“Yes, I am back,” I said, and he looked at me confused.

“What do you want?” He asked me, and I sighed.

“A boy I like asked me on a date tonight since it’s Friday. Can I go with him, Dad? I promise that I will keep things PG,” I said, and he smiled.

“You are my most responsible child, I know you will keep things PG. So,my answer is yes,”

Dad said, and I smiled.

“The answer is no,” Mother said, and I looked at her confused.

“Why not? Sasha and Jay have dates today, and Jay is 13,” I pointed out, and Mother just shrugged.

“You will be the Coven leader. You will marry someone of my choosing,” she answered, and I

frowned.

“What? You are telling me that you will be choosing my future husband? When will I start making my own choices, Mom?” I asked her.

“When you have kids of your own and are Coven leader,” she replied, and I looked at Dad.

“Come on, let her have some fun and be a teenager,” Dad said.

“And what will you do if they fall in love? Love turns teenagers into rebels. So no,” she said firmly.

“I can give you the night off and tomorrow off. That’s the only offer I can give you,” She said, and I nodded.

“I will take it,” I said and then went upstairs to my room.

I got showered and got ready to watch a movie when the door opened.

“How many times must i tell you to knock when you are entering your sister’s room?” Dad asked Jay.

“She doesn’t mind, do you mind?” He asked me as he was walking in with a box of pizza and takeout.

“What is this?” I asked him, and he just shrugged.

“Date night,” Dad said, and I smiled as they all settled on my bed.

“Don’t you give a beautiful date?” I asked him.

He couldn’t stop bragging about his date, so I am surprised that he canceled it.

“Well, you are almost just as beautiful as my date and more important,” Jay said, and I smiled at this.

I rested my head on his shoulder.

They had everything, chocolate, pizza, and ice cream.

End of flashback

I rested my head on Jay’s shoulder.

“Thank you for being the best younger brother I could ask for,” I said, and he kissed my

forehead.

“It’s because you are the best sister in the world. I am glad and happy that you are my sister,”

he said.

When I left, I was relieved that Mother wouldn’t have a say in whom I married.

How would I have known?

What did I know about the future?
