Jade’s pov

I felt someone shake me gently. “Jade wake up,” the voice said, and I opened my eyes and found Mrs Odell looking at me.

“I am not hungry,” I said, and closed my eyes again.

The blanket I was wearing was wanked off me and I looked at her confused.

“No one in my family misses meals. You will have dinner, lunch and breakfast with everyone.” She said firmly.

“But I am not hungry,” I pointed out, and she just shrugged.

“Sometimes we think we are not hungry, but when we see food, hunger comes. Now, get out of bed and let’s go.” She insisted.

I got off the blankets and headed to the door.

“You are going dressed like that?” She asked, looking at my outfit.

“Don’t push it, Mrs Odell.” I said, and she chuckled before nodding.

“I will take what I can get.” She said, and I watched as she looked around the room.

“I should apologize to you.” She said, and I looked at her confused.

“It was an unfair comparison. You are doing this to save this alliance and your sister’s marriage.” She said, and I looked at her curiously.

“Why do you say it like that?” I asked her and she sighed.

“I know people of this pack and my children’s uncle.” She said, and I frowned. “I know that somehow, someone would have killed your sister.”

“You think they would go that far?” I asked her and she nodded.

“A lot of people worked hard to get Dante into the position he is in. They wouldn’t just let him give it up like that.” She explained, and I nodded.

“But he is her mate, he would have protected her.” I said, and she nodded.

I could tell that she was also something that her son wouldn’t have been able to protect Sasha. He would have tried, but eventually those people would have gotten what they

There is politics wherever you go. Even in the human world, people die just to serve another person’s agenda.

“It’s okay, you were looking out for your daughter-in-law and your son.” I said, and she looked

at me.

“You are also my daughter-in-law. Every girl dreams of getting married, and you weren’t even given the chance to choose who and how.” She said, and then sighed.

“Come on, you look like you need food.” She said, and I nodded as I followed behind her.

I got downstairs and, just like she said, everyone was there. And by everyone, I mean about 30 people were sitting there ready to eat.

“Okay, I will introduce you to everyone.” Sasha said, and I looked around the room.

“By the time you are done, I am sure the food will be cold.” I pointed out.

“That is true, but I should be introduced. I am Piers. We met at the first wedding.” The guy

said. I looked at him and nodded.

“I am Jade,” I said, and everyone on the table started laughing.

“I won,” Tia said, and people around the table took out money.

“They all made a bet that you would only say that.” Alpha Dante cleared my confusion.

“Give me my cut as well.” He said as they were handing him some money.

“You also bet on it?” Sasha asked her mate, who nodded.

“He was the one that actually came up with the idea.” Tia the only sister said.

I looked at Alpha Dante, who was busy counting the money in his hands.

“Don’t mind them,” Mrs Odell said, and I looked around the table.

I was seated opposite Sasha, she was sitting on Alpha Dante’s right side, and I was sitting on the left.

I looked at the food on the table, and I was suddenly hungry.

Everyone started dishing up, and I did the same. They were busy talking, and they would try to include me in their conversation.

“Jade, I heard that you are a nurse.” Tia said and I nodded.

“Yes, I was a nurse,” I answered, and she smiled.

“How is it? Did you like it? I heard that the working hours for nurses are crazy” She said, and I

nodded.

“That is true, but I liked it. It’s always been something I have always wanted to do.” I explained, and she nodded.

“Growing up, Jade was always good at portions, she would heal injured animals,” Sasha said, and looked at me with a smile.

“That’s amazing. What else were you good at?” Pler asked me.

“Well, I don’t really know.” I answered, and then looked down.

“I am guessing communication isn’t one of them.” Some girl retorted, I looked at her and then. didn’t say anything.

They kept talking, and when dinner was over, I was glad, but someone spoke up.

“Let’s have dessert,” One person said.

“Yes, I think brother brought a ton of ice cream.” Tia said, and then looked at her brother. He seemed hesitant but shrugged and then nodded.

“But I don’t want any.” He said, and they nodded.

“I am going to my room as well, goodnight everyone.” I said, getting up.

“You don’t have a sweet tooth like your brother?” Tia asked me.

“Hell no, Jade can eat sweets all day long. She was always fighting with Mom about it. Why are you leaving?” Sasha asked me.

“I am just tired, the past few days have been rough.” I answered and she nodded.

I walked to my room and couldn’t sleep because I really wanted some ice cream.

I took a book and started reading, hoping that maybe the craving would go away, but it didn’t.

It didn’t, so I just decided to walk downstairs and get the ice cream.

I walked downstairs, and everyone was in their room.

I opened the fridge and looked around, and couldn’t find anything.

Did they finish all the ice cream?

“What are you looking for?” A voice suddenly said, and I jumped out scared.

“You scared the s**t out of me,” I said, and found Alpha Dante standing there looking at me.

“I was looking for a bottle of water.” I answered, and he looked at me.

“In the freezer,” He said, and I just shrugged at this.

“Good night,” I said and turned to leave, but stopped when he held my hand.

I looked at him confused, and he put his hands around my waist and picked me up. He put me on the counter and then walked to the freezer and pulled out a few frozen peas and the two tubs of ice cream.

“Apology for taking the last one in the shop today.” He said, and I took it and just shrugged.

“You are forgiven, but I thought that you didn’t have a sweet tooth.” I said, and took the spoon he was handing me.

“Well, I still don’t, but I need this for something.” He answered, and I nodded.

The moment the cold sweetness touched my tongue, I smiled at this.

I opened my eyes and found Alpha Dante looking at me.

“What?” I asked him, and he didn’t say anything and just shrugged.

“I am going,” He said, and I watched as he almost ran out of the kitchen.

I don’t know why, but I found myself laughing at his action.

He suddenly turned back and looked at me.

“What’s funny?” He asked me, and I just shrugged.

“Nothing,” I said, and he looked at me confused.

“You only laugh that way when you are uncomfortable.” He pointed out, and I frowned.

“What are you talking about?” I asked him and he looked at me.

“You only laugh that way when you are uncomfortable.” He repeated.

“I am uncomfortable? You are the one who ran out of here like I am the bane of your existence. As if I am a weapon formed against you. Well, I don’t blame you. The kitchen isn’t a very good place for us.” I said, and he smiled at this.

“Yeah, I touched you and did all those things in the kitchen.” He pointed, and I nodded.

“I also kissed you in the kitchen as well, and I should apologize for kissing you like that,” I said, and he looked at me confused.

“You kissed me?” He asked me and I frowned.

“Wait, are you telling me that I imagined it? I mean, I was drunk, but I remember kissing you last night.” I said, and he seemed confused.

“Oh, you mean when your lips slightly touched mine?” He asked me, and I frowned.

Isn’t that called a kiss?

“You call that a kiss?” He asked me and I nodded.

“Our lips touched.” I said a little unsure now.

“Don’t tell me that you count that as our first kiss.” He said, and I looked at him confused. I took a spoonful of ice cream and put it into my mouth to ease the warmth I was feeling.

“Tell me, Jade, do you consider that our first kiss?” He asked me.

“I haven’t thought about it.” I replied and looked down.

I am blushing, aren’t I?

Stop blushing, you fool.

I looked up when I heard his footsteps, and he was walking towards me. He parted my legs and stood in the middle, and his gray eyes landed on mine. He put his hands on my waist, and my heart started beating like crazy.

“Well, I thought about it, and I refuse to let that be our first kiss. But this will be it,” he said, and then captured my lips.

I was breathless.

I felt myself respond to his kiss right away.

Why does it feel so natural and also consuming at the same time?

He was pulling me even closer to his body.

I felt so warm and safe and, at the same time, alive.

He then pulled away and kissed my forehead.

“Good night Jade.” He said, walking away.

Dante’s pov

“So, you slept in yours and Sasha’s room last night?” My mother asked me, and I sighed at

this.

“I am not having this talk with you.” I said, and she sighed at this.

“I also don’t want to have this talk with you. But the sooner you get Jade pregnant, the sooner things will go back to normal.” She said, and I looked at her and then at Sasha.

“Do you also have something to say?” I asked Sasha, who shook her head.

“But mother-in-law is right. I don’t want to even think about your sleeping schedule with my sister. But I do think that we should do something.” She said, and I sighed.

“I know that because she isn’t your mate, then you are probably not attracted to her at all, but you should at least try.” My mother said.

“And how do I do that?” I asked her, and she sighed.

“Try sleeping in the same room as her until it’s confirmed that she is pregnant. You should sleep in the same room as her.” Mom answered.

My eyes turned to Jade, who was in the room but completely silent. It was as if she wasn’t there and seemed to be lost in something else.

“Why am I here?” Jade suddenly spoke up.

“Jade, we need a solution to this. I know that you also aren’t looking forward to this. But the documents have been signed.” Sasha said to her little sister.

Jade didn’t answer but just looked outside, and my eyes landed on her.

Last night, she was blushing and so full of emotions, but now she is emotionless. It is as if I am looking at two completely different people.

“What do you want me to do? Should I wear your perfume and dress like you in hopes of seducing your mate?” She asked Sasha. “If he isn’t attracted to me, then there is nothing I can do about that.”

I looked at the three women in the room and found myself closing my eyes. How do I even begin to tell them the real reason?

The real reason is that I am scared that I will turn out to be like my father. As a mated man, I
