Chapter 38: Thief
Jade’s pov
I sat down on the grass and looked up at the sky.
I looked at the necklace in my hand, and I just found myself sobbing.
Why am I even crying? What was I expecting?
My own mother always treated me like I was second best, actually third.
What was I expecting from other people?
What was I expecting from my sister’s mate.
I grapped my chest, I don’t understand why it hurts so much.
He is no one to me, so why does it matter?
Of course, he bought his mate a necklace.

And I am not a child anymore to compare. Why should I care that hers is a lot better than mine?
Why should I care that mine looks like the cheaper version compared to hers.
I touched the one that Tommy bought for me. He is the only one who doesn’t treat me like I am
second best.
Why does the universe always do this to me?
Or maybe it isn’t the universe. Maybe Vanessa was right this whole time.
I just love taking things away from my sister.
Maybe I am not the victim that I think I am in this whole scenario.
The party had died down, after that stunt I pulled with that Alpha I couldn’t stay there anymore.
With Sasha busy dragging me around with her mate.
I realized it then. She was just trying to make me feel like I mattered.
Trying to present a united front, I wiped away my tears and took a deep breath.
It’s okay, Jade, everything will be fine.
I shouldn’t let this get to me, I knew when I agreed to this that it was nothing but a deal.
Why am I taking a fake relationship and making it into a real one?

Why am I busy behaving like this?
He belongs to Sasha, and that’s it.
Flashback
“I have something for you,” Mother said as she walked into my room.
“It’s a dress,” she said and then handed it to me.
“Can I try it on?” I asked her, and she nodded.
I got off the bed and got dressed and then looked at myself in the mirror.
“I love it,” I said, and she nodded.

“I am glad I bought it for Sasha, but it didn’t fit her. I knew it would fit you,” she said with a smile and
then walked out.
I looked at the dress. It makes sense now since it was covered in butterflies.
I prefer flowers, “Come on, dinner is ready,” she yelled from the hall.
I ran after her, and I sat down with the whole family.
“Is that the dress they bought for you?” Vanessa asked Sasha, who nodded.
“Yes, it doesn’t fit me. Mom said that she would buy me a new dress. Right mom?” Sasha asked
our mother, who nodded.
“Did I miss someone’s birthday?” Dad asked, looking around.
“No Dad, Mom bought me a dress because I have been doing such a great job impressing the coven members,” Sasha answered.
“Well, it seems like you are really talented. But thanks to you, even Jade got a new dress as well,” Aunt Emily said with a smile.
“But that doesn’t seem to be Jade’s style,” Dad said.
“Of course it is not her style, I wasn’t it buying it for her,” Mom retorted, and Dad frowned.
“You could have bought something that was her style instead of giving her that,” Dad retorted.
“No, it’s okay. I love the dress,” I said and looked at Mom, who frowned.
“I can never do anything right. First, you say that I neglect her, but then when I give her something, I am also wrong,” Mom suddenly screamed.
“I am saying that you could have bought her a dress as well,” Dad said.

“I am done with this conversation,” Mom said and then left the table.
“Is it my fault?” I asked Dad, and he shook his head.
“No kiddo, it’s not your fault at all,” Dad said and also got up and left.
The mood for dinner was ruined so everyone went to their rooms.
I turned to leave as well when Vanessa held my hand.

Sasha had gone to the kitchen to get some snacks for them since they were having a sleepover.
“I don’t buy your innocent little act. You know exactly what you are doing,” she said, squeezing my
hand.
“You are hurting me,” I said, but she didn’t care at all.
“I can see what you are trying to do. You are jealous of Sasha aren’t you? She is talented, beautiful, and is also your mom’s favorite,” she said, and I shook my head.
“I don’t care about any of that,” I said, and she scoffed at this.
“Really? Then why are you trying so hard to take everything from her? Spreading rumors?” she
asked me.
“What rumors?” I asked her, and she let go of my hand with a lot of force, and I lost my balance.
“You know exactly what you have been saying. You are starting at such a young age. Next thing you will be trying to steal your sister’s boyfriends. Shameless, you are nothing but a thief,” she said
with venom in her voice.
“Jade,” Sasha said, running into the room and looking at me.
“Are you okay?” she asked me, and I nodded.
I looked at the dress I was wearing and it was lightly torn.
I looked at Vanessa and realized that she was stepping on the dress.
“Your dress got damaged,” Sasha said, and I just shrugged.
“Well, it wasn’t hers to begin with,” Vanessa commented with a smile.
“Should I take you to your room?” Sasha asked me, and I shook my head.
“I am fine,” I said and then walked to my room.

I sighed and wiped away my tears yet again.
I took a deep breath and frowned when someone suddenly hugged me.
“No one has ever defended me like that,” Alpha Dante said.
I pushed him away and then turned around to look at him.

He seemed really confused, I was not a thief, and I would not be stealing from my own sister.
I extended my hand and then opened it to reveal the necklace.
“Please, don’t buy me anything from now on,” I said, and he just stood there looking at me.
“Were you crying? Did someone say something to you?” he asked me, and I sighed.
I took his hand and placed the necklace in his hand.
“I don’t want anything from you. I don’t like gifts that are given out of pity,” I explained, and he
seemed even more confused.
“Pity, what the hell are you talking about?” he asked me, and I sighed.
“I am saying that just because you are buying something for your mate. It doesn’t mean that you need to buy something for me,” I answered.
“And please, refrain from touching me. Don’t hug me, don’t kiss me or hold my hand. That’s not how a child is made,” I said and then stormed off.
I am not a thief, I will not steal from my sister.

“I f****d up? I didn’t do anything wrong,” he answered.
I could see him thinking back to everything he has done and nothing came to mind.
Hell, he didn’t do anything stupid so why was she so angry?
We walked to her bedroom and he tried opening the door but it was locked.
“Break the door down,” I said.

“No, this just means that she needs some space,” he answered and I wanted to roll my eyes.
He knows that she needs space but doesn’t know why she is so angry with him.
“She is angry with you, and not me,” I retorted and he scoffed at this.
“To her, you and I are the same. The same face that pissed her off,” he explained.
He then walked to our room with our mate and started getting ready for bed.
I just cut the link to take a nap when something caught my attention.
“Did you accidentally buy two necklaces?” Sasha asked him.
“What are you talking about?” he asked her.
She showed him the necklace she was wearing and the one he put on his dresser.
They look the same, except one is bigger than the other.
“You bought her a small necklace?” I asked my human.
“No, I had no idea they were different. Anyway, I don’t think it mattered to her. Isn’t it the thought
that counts?” he asked.
“And exactly what thought is this? I think you are lesser than my mate?” I asked him.
How can he be so stupid?
