“Can I ask you something?” I asked Stephen and he nodded.

“Why do you want to be Alpha? I was raised to be the coven leader and I hated every minute of it,” I

said and he smiled.

“This is my home and these are my people. I want to take care of them and protect them,” he

answered and I looked at him.

Those words sound so familiar that I couldn’t help but chuckle.

“What’s funny?” he asked me and I shook my head.

“Caring and protecting people isn’t easy. Yes you come out looking like the hero but there is more

to it than that,” I said and looked at his reaction.

“I believe that I can do it, I know that I can do it,” he answered and I nodded.

He left after some time and the moment I came back from my work I found Dante in my office.

“Why are you here again?” I asked him as I sat down.

“I came to see my beautiful wife,” he said and I smiled as I sat on his lap.

“I went to see the previous Beta,” he said and I looked at him confused.

“What did you talk about?” I asked him and he sighed.

What is happening to him? Is he sick or something?

“What changed? Did he just change overnight and try to take away your title?” I asked him and he

“Everything in this world takes time. Nothing happens overnight, love and hate also don’t just happen,” he said.

He is telling the truth, even success doesn’t happen overnight.

Sometimes people work hard for years in secret and then boom they become a success.

But the hard work that took years and years isn’t seen.

“Wait, you stopped liking him because he took a few girls from you?” I asked him and he shook his

head.

“Like what?” I asked him and he thought about it for a second.

“Well, he once volunteered to train me. Suddenly word spread around that he is a much better

fighter than me,” he explained.

“He would make everyone around me like him and at the same time hate me. When I told my dad this, he wasn’t happy at all,” he said and I watched as he frowned.

He hates that he called him Dad even after all these years.

“Well, that man told me that if you know someone and somehow everyone in that person’s friend group hates you. Then maybe you are not the problem, maybe they are being fed something bad,” he explained and I looked at him.

This is exactly what happened to me when I was growing up.

I always thought that maybe they thought that I stole something from their friend.

“I think your sister and Stephen are a lot alike,” he added and I looked at him confused.

“Why would you say that?” I asked him.

I mean I was also thinking about the similarities as well.

But what would make him say that?

“Well, I always felt sorry for her. That her younger sister was chosen as the coven leader and not

her,” he said and looked at me.

“Until I met you, you and Jay were probably the kindest people I have ever met. Once I met Jay, I

“I am not saying your sister spoke badly about you. But it was always the way she said it, her tone and her expressions. Often made it look like it was snatched from her,” he added.

He seemed to have thought deeply about it.

“But why would you compare her to Stephen? He is smug and annoying,” I explained and he

nodded.

“But he is also selfish and only looks out for himself. Does that sound similar?” he asked me.

I didn’t know what to say to any of this.

I mean should I stand up for her or support him in his analysis?
