Separate Weddings, Separate Lives novel Chapter 47

Louisa felt a little bit dizzy, but Elijah had already pinned her down. He had one arm against the mattress behind her while his other hand was busy undoing his tie. He stared her down with a dark gaze, as if he were a leopard and she were his prey.

In that moment, Louisa got her answer. He wasn't just teasing her—he was going to consume her fully.

Even though she had prepared herself mentally, she still felt a sudden sense of rejection and fear when it was actually happening.

If it were just a regular marriage, she was willing to give herself up to him. After all, she had already said goodbye to her past. She was ready for a new beginning.

The same couldn't be said for Elijah, though. He had only married her for his revenge.

Sadly, his hatred toward her just made her feel wronged and lusted after.

"Have you really made up your mind, Mr. Halton? Aren't you afraid of letting Letitia down?"

Louisa's words brought a cold smirk to Elijah's face. He tossed his tie to a random corner of the bed and loosened his collar, showing off his seductive Adam's apple. "Are you saying that because you're scared?"

In front of him, Louisa knew her schemes were useless. "No. I'm just reminding you so you won't regret it after everything is said and done."

"I'll need to do it first to know whether I'll regret it or not," he said. He placed his hand on her cheek and gently caressed her skin with his thumb. His touch was as light as a feather, but it made Louisa tense up.

She didn't try to dodge his touch. After all, she started it. Even then, she still felt like Elijah was playing mental games with her.

The winner would be whoever could hold out until the very end.

The hairs on Louisa's neck suddenly stood up. Elijah's fingers were gently brushing against her neck, making her shiver, and even her eyelashes quivered.

She was obviously terrified, but she was still so stubborn. Elijah's eyes darkened even more as he leaned down. His lips were almost on hers. "You seem nervous, Mrs. Halton."

She knew very well that she couldn't hide it from him, but she still tried to act composed. "Aren't all wedding nights supposed to be nerve-wracking and exciting?"
