Louisa was enjoying herself on the lawn when a vehicle approached her.

There was no question who it was. Elijah had called them "stubborn shadows" earlier, and the description was perfect. She had traveled this far to get away, yet they were still sticking to her. They were the ultimate nuisance.

But just because Danica wanted to talk to her didn't mean Louisa had to cooperate, right?

Louisa wasn't that kind. She pressed on the accelerator and steered toward an even wider plot, feeling the full power of the car beneath her.

She was apologetic for her initial skepticism of the car. It wasn't just fun to drive—it looked cool, too. She even considered buying one for herself and shipping it back home so she could cruise the streets in it.

When Danica saw Louisa pulling farther away, she smirked and hit the accelerator to give chase. In no time, the two of them tore across the lawn in a relentless chase.

"Louisa, why are you running?" Danica shouted when she couldn't catch up.

Louisa looked beautiful and cool as her long black hair whipped behind her in the wind. She ignored Danica, who was shouting behind her, and focused solely on the drive.

Danica would have to scream herself hoarse just to make a sound in this vast open space. If she wanted to yell into the void, Louisa was more than happy to let her.

"I have something to tell you, Louisa. Stop!" Danica ordered.

Louisa activated the car's auxiliary boost—a trick Elijah had just taught her on the way over. He'd told her it was a hidden feature most new drivers would not know. The moment she pushed the button, the car shot forward even faster.

Danica could barely catch up, but Louisa made sure to stay just within reach so that she wouldn't give up the chase. After all, it wasn't every day she got the chance to lead someone around on a leash like a dog.

"Louisa, are you doing this on purpose? You're just afraid to face me, aren't you?" Danica was so furious that her voice cracked.

Afraid? Although Danica was young, she was scheming. She was clearly trying to goad Louisa.

However, Louisa wasn't about to fall for such provocations. She kept her foot down, and the accelerating speed made the drive more exhilarating.
