Seven Days to Goodbye (Irene and Stellan) novel Chapter 11

Stellan remembered that in the year they got married, he and Irene had once bought a painting of a sea of columbines at Raphael’s shop.

Because Raphael had said, In Alaska, columbine is the flower of love. Lovers exchange columbines as a symbol of eternal love.

Irene was moved by this explanation, so she bought the painting and hung it in their bridal room.

Unfortunately, during their last argument, water was splashed on it, and the beautiful sea of columbines blurred into a messy patch, as if it mirrored the scattered fragments of their life over the years.

He had intended to have someone restore it when he had the chance, but he had been too busy and kept forgetting.

Thinking of that forgotten painting, Stellan felt a sudden, inexplicable stab of pain in his heart.

It seemed that over the years, too many details had been cast aside by him, just like that painting,

Stellan could not stay any longer; he left Valentina behind in the chapel and went alone to downtown Anchorage.

He wanted to find out exactly who the person in that painting was!

However, as soon as he entered the art gallery, he was stunned by the scene before him.

He saw a painting hanging in the most prominent spot in the firstfloor hall, marked with the words Not for Sale:

In the painting, the sky and lake were a pure, vivid blue, and a pair of lovers embraced tightly by the lakeside.

The colors and brushstrokes were beautiful and romantic.

The only strange thing was that a pair of angel wings had been painted on the girl’s back.

Stellan’s heartbeat grew even more rapid, and he began to tremble with

each breath.

He could not be more familiar with this scene; it was exactly the moment when he and Irene embraced by Eklutna Lake.

The style of the painting was completely different from the other works in the gallery, so much so that another name suddenly came to Stellan’s mind.

Irene.

She had painted this herself.

But why had she painted a pair of wings on her own back?

Could it be that when she painted this, she already knew she would

Stellan did not dare to think any further.

He felt as if he were in the middle of a giant murder mystery game, where every object he saw after witnessing that shocking scene seemed to be a clue planted in advance.

Everything pointed to the finalthat death.

Just as he was lost in thought, a voice speaking imperfect Mandarin came from beside him.

Mr. Paxton, you are here.

Only then did Stellan come back to his senses and turn his head.

Raphael was dressed in a white kuspuk, with no extra accessories on him, as if he were in mourning for someone.

He walked forward, his gaze fixed on the painting, a trace of sorrow in his eyes.

This painting was done by Ms. Godwin herself. She said that if you came, it would be left for you as her final gift.

I thought I would have to wait a long time, but I didn’t expect you to

come so soon.

Looking at him like this, Stellan felt as if a giant hand was gripping his heart tightly, making it hard for him to breathe.

He could no longer deceive himself, but he was even more afraid to face the truth.

After a long silence, when he finally spoke again, his voice was so hoarse it was almost unrecognizable,

So that portraitit really was painted by you.
