Chapter 19
He felt a pang in his heart as he listened to these words, moved and yet filled with sorrow.
Stellan glanced sideways at Irene, reached out to hold her hand, and felt a sharp pain in his chest.
Clearly, she trusted him so much, and was so gentle and kind.
Yet he had hurt Irene deeply.
Irene lifted the sun visor, staring at Stellan with obvious nervousness: “Stop the car!”
Stellan instinctively hit the brakes, only then realizing that there was indeed a woman ahead, anxiously waving her arms.
“Help!”
Without thinking, Irene got out of the car. Seeing that Stellan was still inside, she shot him an annoyed glare.
“Stop daydreaming and come help!”
After Stellan got out, he realized there was not just one woman, but also a man half–sitting against a road sign nearby.
The man’s face was pale, his brow tightly furrowed as he clutched his leg.

Stellan shielded Irene, who wanted to step forward to help, behind him and frowned: “What happened?”
The woman’s eyes were swollen from crying, her tears long since dried. She hurriedly spoke up.
“We’re a couple, hiking to Alaska, but two hours ago my boyfriend accidentally rolled down a grassy slope and might have broken his leg!”
“Handsome, could you please help us? Can you give us a ride to the nearest county hospital?”
Irene leaned forward and spoke in a gentle, soothing voice.
“Don’t worry, we’ll take you to the hospital.”
The wind and sand outside were fierce, so Stellan pushed Irene back into the car, gently squeezing her palm to comfort her.
“Stay in the car, I’ll handle things here.”
As he spoke, he took out the first aid kit from the back seat and said, “I have some medicine here, let me do a simple treatment first.”
When he looked up, he met the woman’s astonished gaze.
He felt inexplicably uncomfortable and frowned: “What’s wrong?”
The man tugged at the woman and shook his head weakly at Stellan: “Sorry, she’s just too worried about me.”
Stellan said nothing, crouched down to examine the man’s leg, and was about to speak when he stopped himself.

The wound had already been given basic treatment, the bandage was professionally wrapped, and even the knots used for immobilization were neat and efficient.
Although it was not the usual method, it immediately reminded Stellan of Irene.
She had used this kind of knot before.
Recalling the past, he smiled, put away the first aid kit, and opened the car door to let them in.
“This bandage is very professional, and the knot is quite special. There’s no need for more medicine.”
The woman spoke excitedly: “You recognize this knot? I learned it from a blogger named All!”
“This knot is really useful. Do you watch him too?”
Irene, standing to the side, lifted her chin slightly, looking a bit proud.
Stellan noticed her little gesture and couldn’t help but laugh before answering the woman,
“I rarely watch videos, so I’m not very familiar with him.”
“It’s my… wife who likes watching his videos.”
He started the car, and since someone had brought up the topic,
Stellan found himself talking more than usual.
“Back when my wife watched that blogger, I was there too. I wouldn’t let her learn, thinking, what’s the point of learning this?”
