Seeing Melanie stand up to leave the office, Evelyn added imperiously:
"The contract is already signed. Do you think it'll do any good for you to go over there now?"
Melanie turned her head, her eyes reflecting Evelyn's cold, mocking smile.
Evelyn had originally thought Melanie would be a records keeper at the Hale Health Center for life.
She hadn't expected Melanie to have some skills, leveraging one grand opening to snag a project manager position.
But…
She wasn't a pushover either!
"Don't worry. Even though I'm the one who negotiated the deal with Novarison Pharmaceuticals Plant, I'm still leaving the project to you…"
Evelyn said, glancing at her new watch.
"The timing is perfect. They're waiting for you at Novarison for a meeting right now! You can get the materials from Emilia."
With that, Evelyn strode out of Melanie's office.
Melanie thought for a moment in silence, then left her office to get the materials from Emilia.
But Emilia only handed her a single sheet of paper.
"This is it?"
Faced with Melanie's question, Emilia rolled her eyes and retorted:
"What else? We're just starting the partnership. How much material did you expect?"
Emilia tossed the paper down and turned to leave.
Melanie glanced at the paper. It was full of useless fluff. She skimmed it quickly but couldn't figure out how Novarison and the Hale Group were supposed to collaborate.
Crumpling the so-called "materials" into a ball and tossing it into the trash, Melanie left the office and drove to the Novarison Pharmaceuticals Plant.
At one time, Novarison had been one of Averin's established pharmaceutical plants.
But by the time Fiona's father's generation took over, it was clearly in decline, unable to keep up with the industry.
If the Hale Health Center partnered with Novarison, it would probably remain a third-rate enterprise forever.
And how could she let that happen?
Melanie gripped the steering wheel, a smile gradually spreading across her lips.
Dominic needed to climb higher.
Because the higher you climb…
There was no seat for Melanie in the conference room, not even a small stool.
Melanie knew Fiona held a grudge from the humiliation she'd suffered at the store's grand opening.
But that was Fiona's fault for starting trouble in the first place.
Melanie could tell that Fiona's troublemaking that day had likely been at Evelyn's behest.
Because the deal with the Halevy Group was her project.
But now, with or without Evelyn's involvement, Fiona had clearly made an enemy of her.
There was no point in staying in the conference room, so Melanie left early.
No one escorted her out, so she wandered around the pharmaceutical plant on her own, getting more and more lost.
She had no idea where she was. All she knew was that the large production equipment she could see through the windows was imported and very new. But it was shut down, not running.
Melanie raised an eyebrow and moved closer for a better look.
Back in the conference room, Fiona's meeting dragged on for a full three hours, but Melanie never returned.
"Too ashamed to come back, I bet." Fiona couldn't suppress a derisive smile at the thought of Melanie scurrying out of the conference room.
