“Absolutely not!”
In the general manager’s office at the Hale Health Center, Dominic rejected the project proposal Melanie had submitted without a second thought.
Melanie stood before him, her expression stern, her hands clenched into tight fists behind her back.
“Dominic, this project is about the future of the company. If you’re doing this because of Evelyn…”
“What does this have to do with Evelyn?” Dominic slammed his hand on the desk. “Evelyn has never said a bad word about you behind your back. I’m disagreeing because your proposal is far too aggressive!”
Dominic barked at Melanie, his face contorted with unbridled rage.
In fact, Melanie wasn't wrong.
It was entirely because of Evelyn.
Ever since the last auction, his dissatisfaction with Melanie had been growing.
Evelyn had whispered in his ear a few times, saying that Melanie, buoyed by a little success, was becoming too eager for quick profits.
And now, here was this new proposal about a new anti-cancer drug.
The research and development for a new cancer drug required huge investment and came with high risks.
His Hale Health Center had already failed once; he wasn't about to go down that road a second time.
Melanie took a silent, deep breath.
Dominic’s reaction was not unexpected.
Getting the Hale Health Center to invest in new anti-cancer drug research was the first and most crucial step in the divorce trap she had designed for him.
It wouldn’t be easy.
But she was determined to succeed.
After his tirade, seeing Melanie remain silent, Dominic began to wonder if he had been too harsh.
He was still stewing over the last auction.
It wasn't as if no one there knew who he was, or that Melanie was his wife.
Yet, in front of all those people, Melanie had brazenly accepted Gabriel’s bid item.
Never mind that she had no use for it.
