Sensing the grit in Melanie’s voice, Elias gave a wry smile.
“What’s there to worry about? His reputation is ruined, his company is on the verge of bankruptcy. Is he really going to refuse to divorce you now?”
Elias had never in his life encountered such a shameless man.
“Besides, he cheated on you and even has an illegitimate daughter. You can get a divorce just by taking it to court, right?”
“Yeah…”
Melanie nodded.
With Lila’s existence, a single paternity test was enough to file for divorce in court.
But that would be too simple, too painless.
Melanie wanted Dominic to leave with nothing, his name dragged through the mud.
She had achieved that.
Yet, for some reason, a deep-seated unease lingered within her.
If even Elias, all the way in Xavorn, had heard about Dominic’s affair, his company’s collapse, and the nationwide condemnation, how could her own father, living right here in Averin, not know?
As expected, shortly after hanging up with Elias, Melanie received a call from Nathaniel.
“Get over here right now.”
Just that one sentence, delivered in a commanding tone, made it clear that Nathaniel was in a terrible mood.
Melanie’s own good mood soured.
As she drove to Crescent Ridge Estate, it began to rain.
A torrential downpour, so heavy that bubbles formed on the road surface.
After the start of autumn, each rain brought a new chill to the air.
Sitting in her car, Melanie shivered involuntarily.
Thankfully, she had a spare umbrella in the car.
After parking, she held the umbrella and walked through the heavy rain toward her father’s villa.
Through the downpour, she could faintly make out a figure in front of the house.
In such a storm, the person had no umbrella or raincoat and was already soaked to the bone.
Not only that, he was kneeling.
He was kneeling in the mud at the gate of her father’s villa, broken and drenched by the driving rain.
Just then, her father emerged from the villa, with Edmund holding an umbrella for him.
Melanie and Nathaniel’s eyes met.
Melanie’s expression was grim.
Nathaniel’s was even more so.
A bolt of lightning split the sky above them, as if tearing the night in two.
“Are you satisfied now?”
Nathaniel’s stern reprimand, combined with the booming thunder, seemed to shatter Melanie’s eardrums.
Melanie’s hand tightened on the umbrella handle.
At this moment, the person kneeling in the pouring rain outside Nathaniel’s home was none other than Dominic.
