Even though she had made a mistake that plunged the entire company into crisis, she was still a Hale, holding the power to make or break anyone's career.
Including Melanie's.
A tense silence fell over the office. Everyone held their breath.
Some of them were in Evelyn's camp, like Emilia.
But there were also neutral employees who didn't take sides.
In their hearts, they all harbored some level of dissatisfaction with Evelyn.
After all, her actions had led to a lawsuit and a loss of credibility for the company.
If things went south, the company might have to resort to layoffs, and they could lose their jobs.
"That's Evelyn for you, always so powerful."
Emilia was the first to start clapping for Evelyn.
A scattered applause slowly filled the office.
Feeling a boost to her ego, Evelyn cleared her throat.
"You've all seen it. I'm not just your Director of Business Development; I'm also Mr. Hale's sister. The Hale Group is my family's business too... As for the previous data discrepancy, if you want to keep your jobs, you know what to say and what not to say. If I hear any rumors, don't blame me for what happens next."
Just as Evelyn finished her speech, a mocking laugh came from the office entrance.
"My, my. Who's throwing their weight around?"
All eyes turned to the doorway, where Melanie stood, dressed in a brand-new, high-end business suit.
Her hair was up in an elegant twist, and her makeup was subtle yet enhancing, making her look absolutely stunning.
"What are you doing here? Oh, I know. Are you here to beg me to approve the funds you applied for?"
Evelyn placed a hand on her hip, her posture oozing arrogance.
Even after her massive blunder, Gregory hadn't revoked her directorship.
Because in Gregory's eyes, even as an adopted daughter, she was still a Hale.
She was family.
Melanie was the outsider.
So, when she gave an order, she was confident the corporate office wouldn't dare to disobey.
Now that her project was dead in the water, she'd make sure Melanie's didn't go smoothly either.
