While Melanie was driving to Brightwood Premier Academy, at the headquarters of Stellaris PharmaTech, Preston summoned his assistant into his office.
"Mr. Whitmore, what can I do for you?"
Philip asked respectfully, bowing slightly.
Before him stood Preston, as stoic and cold as an ice sculpture, as always.
His hands, clad in white silk gloves, were clasped together, and his deep, dark eyes were terrifyingly black.
Preston was remarkably handsome, yet Philip didn't dare to look at him for more than a second.
There was a chilling, oppressive aura that always surrounded him.
He actually knew very little about the man in charge of Stellaris PharmaTech.
All he knew was...
From the first moment he had met him, Preston had never once taken off those white gloves.
The vast office was utterly silent.
After a long moment, Preston's deep, elegant voice finally broke the silence:
"I need to know... who is Melanie's enemy?"
At Brightwood Premier Academy.
When Melanie arrived, Lila was standing alone in the hallway.
Seeing that it was her and not Dominic or Evelyn, Lila's expression immediately changed, her eyes filled with a deep-seated hatred.
Melanie walked over slowly. Before she could speak, Lila started shouting.
"I don't want an aunt! I want my dad... I mean, my uncle."
Seeing Lila almost let the truth slip, a chill flashed in Melanie's eyes.
"Your uncle doesn't want you anymore."
Lila’s face drained of all color instantly.
"You're... you're lying!"
"Why would I lie to you? Your uncle is the one who sent me here to process your withdrawal from school and then send you and your mom back to Bresford."
As soon as Melanie finished speaking, Lila burst into tears.
From the end of the hallway, Dominic and Evelyn came running.
Dominic had no idea what had just happened.
All he knew was that after finally calming Evelyn down and rushing to the school, the first thing he saw was Lila throwing sand all over her teacher.
At a school of Brightwood Premier Academy's caliber, they couldn't afford to offend the teachers.
Not caring about anything else, Dominic immediately began apologizing profusely to the teacher.
Evelyn cradled the terrified, crying Lila in her arms and glared at Melanie.
"Did you put her up to this? Lila is always so well-behaved. Why would she throw sand at her teacher?!"
Hearing Evelyn's accusation, Dominic's gaze immediately shot to Melanie.
It was a look filled with suspicion and accusation.
Melanie met Dominic's loathsome stare without flinching and spoke with deliberate clarity.
"Dominic, you know that Lila has never liked me as her aunt. If I really did put her up to this, as Evelyn claims, do you honestly think she would have listened to me?"
