She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 154

Sylvie didn't expect the bespectacled man to bring up the yacht incident at the resort now of all times.

First the canceled site inspection, then the disaster at sea. Every single event revolved around Hulda, and every tragedy felt inextricably linked to her warnings being ignored.

The bespectacled man's words acted like a hand ripping away the dark, deceptive veil covering Sylvie's deepest secrets.

Others might not know the truth, but she knew perfectly well what she had done.

Panicking, Sylvie immediately turned to check Herbert's reaction. She didn't care what anyone else thought of her anymore; the only thing that mattered was what Herbert thought.

Clearly, Herbert had heard the bespectacled man's words as well. All the color instantly drained from his face.

He thought of the horrifying nightmare of the shipwreck, of Garth Coleman's wife screaming in hysterical agony, and of the two key technicians who were still lying helplessly in hospital beds.

Herbert felt as if a heavy boulder was crushing his chest, making it impossible to breathe.

If he hadn't been so vile to Hulda during the inspection... if he had just patiently listened to what she had to say...

Wouldn't everything be different right now?

Hulda was his wife; she would have absolutely been willing to give him the opportunity.

If he had let her speak, the inspection would have gone smoothly. There wouldn't even be an open bidding process right now because H&J Technologies would have secured a direct partnership with the institute.

If he hadn't iced her out at the resort, and if he hadn't arrogantly assumed she was just acting out of petty jealousy, he would have listened to her. He could have avoided the catastrophic accident that pushed H&J into a media firestorm and cost him three vital talents.

If he had just listened, he and his company wouldn't be in this desperate, suffocating corner.

Just then, the bespectacled man spoke up again. "And today... Director Atherton didn't come to clean, she came to host this meeting. But we dragged her into an argument outside the hall for ages, which is probably why the conference was delayed..."

Sylvie noticed that the man's way of addressing Hulda had shifted from 'that crazy woman' to 'this lady' and finally 'Director Atherton'. Her panic escalated to pure terror.

With that, she turned to the host, signaling that she was finished.

For a few seconds, the hall remained completely silent. Then, thunderous applause suddenly erupted.

Several tech moguls were so moved they jumped out of their seats, pumping their fists and cheering her on!

The venerable scientific titans sitting next to Dr. Atherton all stood up, clapping enthusiastically while casting envious glances at the old man in the wheelchair.

"Conrad, you've taken in a brilliant student! I'm genuinely jealous of you!"

"Amazing! A true talent, an absolute genius!"

"You sly old fox! Why did you hide such an incredible talent until now? Were you afraid we'd try to poach her?"

Dr. Atherton listened to the deafening cheers and the endless praise pouring from his peers.
