Caspian pulled back his icy glare from Herbert, settled comfortably into his chair, and gazed up at Hulda with eyes full of gentle admiration.
Yes, Hulda. This is how you are meant to shine.
Sitting in the audience, Sylvie felt herself dissolving into utter insignificance.
Before today, every single advantage she arrogantly paraded to belittle Hulda had been utterly pulverized into dust.
At that moment, the bespectacled man sitting on her other side suddenly realized something and gasped. "Wait! So, that time this lady visited H&J... she wasn't there to pester Mr. Jewell! She was there to conduct a formal site inspection as the Director of the R&D Center!"
Hearing this, the faces of everyone in the H&J group, including Herbert, instantly drained of color.
The other two executives exchanged grim looks before turning their bewildered stares onto Herbert and Sylvie.
Back then, they had seen Ms. Sinclair crying and watched their boss ruthlessly drive the woman on stage away. Just like the bespectacled man, they naturally assumed she was an ex-lover causing a scene and bullying poor Sylvie.
But the truth was, they had been standing too far away to actually hear anything.
All they saw was their boss's furious impatience and Sylvie's pitiful, victimized act.
"No wonder the institute officially canceled H&J's site inspection right after she left," the bespectacled man said, everything finally clicking into place as he turned to glare at Herbert and Sylvie.
Feeling the weight of those three deeply questioning and accusatory stares, Sylvie's body instantly went rigid.
She pressed her lips together tightly, entirely unsure of how to defend herself.
Her eyes darted around in a panic. The bespectacled man's revelation made her heart pound so violently she felt sick. The shock was simply too overwhelming.
How was she supposed to know that Hulda was the Director of the R&D Center back then?!
All she wanted was for Herbert to hate her, despise her, and dump her!
Even now, it was impossible for her to accept that Hulda was standing on that stage as a revered figure of authority!
The bespectacled man spoke up again, his voice trembling. "And that time at the resort... she was genuinely trying to warn us not to take the yacht out, wasn't she?"
Thinking of their severely injured colleagues whose careers were ruined, and the tragic death of Vice President Garth Coleman...
A heavy, complicated grief settled over the bespectacled man and the other two executives.
Because of Herbert and Sylvie, they had written Hulda off as nothing more than a crazy, jealous woman.
But looking back, she had sincerely tried to save them! She had been genuinely warning them!
If they had just set aside their prejudice and chosen not to sail out that day, they could have avoided the entire tragedy!
Sylvie's body tensed even further until she began to tremble.
It felt as if sharp nails were growing out of her chair. Under the scrutiny of the three executives, every second was pure torture.
