Right now, just standing there and looking at these men made Hulda's skin crawl with irritation.
She turned on her heel to walk away, but Caspian stepped forward, blocking her path. "I'll give you a ride."
Hulda was already at her boiling point. She shot him a venomous glare. "You can screw off too! As far away as possible!"
With that, entirely indifferent to the gawking bystanders, she flagged down a taxi and got in.
Dylan watched the cab pull away before carefully stepping up to Caspian. "Boss, Ms. Atherton's gone. Should we go too?"
Before getting into the car, Caspian shot Herbert a glacial, warning glare—a look so menacing it sent a shiver of dread down Justin's spine.
Inside the car, Dylan glanced at the rearview mirror, watching Caspian pull a decorative silk pocket square from his suit jacket, using it to irritably dab the cut on his lip.
Dylan just couldn't keep his mouth shut. "Boss, you took that hit for absolutely nothing. She didn't even look at you, let alone feel sorry for you. Your little pity play totally backfired."
Caspian ran his tongue over the inside of his cut lip, lifting his icy gaze to meet Dylan's in the mirror.
Dylan flinched, snapping his mouth shut and focusing entirely on the road.
Back at the restaurant entrance, an uneasy silence had settled.
Justin waited until Caspian's car was completely out of sight before finally letting go of Herbert. "Are you completely out of your mind?! Do you have any idea who you just hit? That was Caspian Sterling! If he decides to press charges for assault, what are you going to do? Do you not care about your reputation anymore?!"
Herbert waved him off, his expression dark and exhausted, having zero desire to argue.
Right on cue, Victor Yates pulled up. Spotting that his boss was clearly unwell, he rushed over and helped him into the car.
By the time Victor got him home, the alcohol had completely overtaken Herbert's system.
In the living room, Sylvie was sitting anxiously on the sofa, her eyes darting constantly toward the entryway.
A massive amount of time had passed since Herbert had stormed out upon discovering the divorce certificate. She had called him several times, but every single call had gone unanswered.
This was something that had literally never happened before.
"This... he's going to need someone to look after him tonight," Victor muttered, pulling out his phone. "I'll call his wife and have her come back to take care of him."
Sylvie's eyes darted nervously. She reached out and grabbed Victor's hand to stop him. "It's too late to be calling people. I'll take care of him."
Victor looked at her, frowning in hesitation. "Ms. Sinclair, I don't think that's a good idea. You won't be able to handle a grown man on your own. Why don't I just stay?"
"It's fine," Sylvie said, a flash of impatience crossing her face before she quickly masked it. "If I really need help, I'll wake Callie. It's late. You should go home and get some rest."
Victor glanced down at Herbert, who was passed out on the bed, and reluctantly nodded. "Alright then. I'll get going."
Sylvie stood by the window, watching until Victor's car disappeared down the street, before letting out a massive sigh of relief.
Turning around, she poured a glass of water and walked over to the bed.
She gently patted his shoulder. "Mr. Jewell... come on, have some water."
Herbert forced his eyes half-open in a drunken haze, blindly letting Sylvie prop him up as he mechanically swallowed the water down.
