She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 187

The one most thrilled to hear that word was Cora. "That's amazing! Sylvie, I finally get to call you my sister-in-law!"

"Ah... I..." Sylvie stammered, perfectly playing the part of a startled deer caught in the headlights.

Valery looked at the girl with deep satisfaction. Now that Herbert had decided to marry her, as far as Valery was concerned, Sylvie was already a part of the Jewell family.

She turned back to Herbert, getting straight to her primary concern. "When you and Hulda divorced, she didn't make any outrageous demands, did she? Like trying to take half your assets?"

The question was like stepping on a landmine for Cora. She immediately bristled. "She wouldn't dare! What gives her the right?! Everything that belongs to you and this family is meant for Miles!"

Sylvie glanced nervously at Cora through her tears, then looked at Herbert, pressing her lips together in anxious silence.

Cora wasn't finished. "She was a nobody—an orphan who brought absolutely zero value to you or our family. Letting her play the role of your wife and live a life of luxury for seven years was more than enough!"

Valery nodded in stern agreement. "Cora is right. Do not give her too much; she doesn't deserve it. If you really feel guilty, just throw some cash at her and send her packing."

Thinking of the two supplementary credit cards Hulda had thrown back at him, Herbert let out a hollow scoff. "She doesn't care about my money. And she's not a nobody, she's..."

*Crash.*

The shattering of glass abruptly cut Herbert off.

Sylvie looked up with a panicked, apologetic expression. "I'm so sorry, I just wanted a sip of water, but my hands were shaking and I dropped it."

Valery and Cora's attention instantly snapped back to her. Remembering that her current frail state was entirely her son's fault, Valery guiltily poured a fresh glass of water herself and handed it over.

"Here, drink this."

What was the point anyway?

Hulda had divorced him, and he was now obligated to marry Sylvie. Revealing Hulda's true identity now would only complicate an already messy situation.

Forget it...

Let it be.

Upstairs, Miles had finally run out of patience. Slipping past Callie's watchful eye, he threw his door open and bolted down the stairs.

"Sylvie! Grandma, Aunt Cora, when are we leaving for the zoo?!" he yelled, launching himself directly into Sylvie's lap.

Watching the interaction, Cora smiled warmly. "Miles, from now on, Sylvie is going to be your new mom."
