She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 188

Miles looked at his aunt, thoroughly confused. "But what about my mom?"

Everyone knew he was talking about Hulda.

"She wasn't good at being your mom, so she was sent away. Very soon, Sylvie will be your new mom. You've always loved her and wanted her to be your mom, right? Now your wish is coming true! Aren't you happy?" Cora said with a bright smile.

Miles stared blankly at her, then turned to Herbert. "Dad, is Aunt Cora telling the truth?"

Feeling that Miles was too young to understand the complexities, Herbert didn't want to elaborate. He simply nodded. "Yes. It's true."

Getting a direct confirmation, the little boy's eyes widened as he looked from one adult to another.

"What's wrong, Miles? Are you not happy?" Cora asked.

Miles shook his head. He didn't know how to describe the weird feeling in his chest.

He looked back at Sylvie, who was gazing down at him. Her eyes were red, like she had just been crying.

He didn't want her to be sad. He really liked her! So, he forced a massive grin onto his face. "I am happy!"

Throwing his arms around her neck, he began to act spoiled. "Yay! Sylvie is finally my mom!"

Watching his son show such profound affection for the woman, Herbert's eyes darkened slightly.

*It's for the best,* he thought. *At least she'll know how to raise and educate him properly, unlike Hulda.*

...

Seeing Wade's sheer desperation, Hayden didn't drag it out. "I met with Hulda today."

"Hulda?" Wade froze for a second, then quickly connected the dots. "Are you saying the phantom player's name is Hulda?"

"Exactly!" Hayden nodded, unable to hide his excitement about the reunion. But noticing the strange look on Wade's face, he asked curiously, "Is something wrong?"

Wade gave an awkward chuckle. "No, it's nothing. Just a bizarre coincidence. My useless daughter-in-law happens to share the same name."

Hayden smiled. "Oh, really? That is a coincidence. Though, to marry into your family, I imagine she must be quite an exceptional young woman."

Despite their relatively short acquaintance, Hayden could tell Wade had a significant arrogant and elitist streak. Someone had to be truly outstanding to earn his approval.

To his surprise, Wade waved his hand dismissively, looking uncomfortable. "Ugh, honestly, it's an embarrassment. My daughter-in-law is nothing but a totally unremarkable housewife. All she's good for is barely managing the house and the kid. She's completely useless at everything else."
