She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 201

"By the way, there's one more thing." Brandon Lowe looked at Hulda Atherton with utmost seriousness.

This forced Hulda to table her questions about the joint laboratory for the moment. "What is it?"

Brandon pulled a stack of documents from his battered briefcase and handed them over. "The Ministry of Science and Technology has a major R&D project coming up—the Tech for Uplift Initiative."

Hulda read the header on the file. "Southwest Mountainous Region Geological Hazard Monitoring & Prevention Initiative?"

"Exactly!" Brandon nodded. "The higher-ups are taking this very seriously. They've requested our institute send someone over to act as the chief technical consultant for a targeted assistance program."

Hulda listened intently while flipping through the pages.

"This concerns public welfare; I didn't dare pass something this massive off to just anyone. And I'm entirely too tied up right now to be in two places at once. After mulling it over, I realized you, as the Director of the R&D Center, are the perfect fit."

"Me?" Hulda looked up, eyeing him with uncertainty.

So, she was being sent on a business trip?

"Yes, you!" Brandon nodded eagerly. "The Quantum Crystal Oscillator Gyroscope you developed is a revolutionary breakthrough in both precision and stability. So, out of everyone in the entire institute, there's no one better suited for this than you."

Hulda frowned slightly. After a few seconds of thought, she nodded. "Alright, I understand."

"So, you agree to go?" Brandon's face lit up.

She nodded. "I agree. You're right, Brandon. When it comes to this specific initiative, I'm the best choice."

"Fantastic!" He patted her shoulder. "I knew you had a heart of gold, Hulda! However..."

His tone shifted. "The living conditions in those mountains can be quite rough. You need to mentally prepare yourself."

"I will."

"Great, I'll go report this right away. You should start getting ready too; you'll likely be heading out in a few days." With that, Brandon hurried into the elevator.

By the time Hulda processed his exit, the elevator doors had already slid shut.

She stared at the ascending numbers on the display, momentarily speechless.

Glancing down at the file in her hands, she let out a helpless laugh.

Miles's lips parted, but he didn't say a word.

He'd posted the photo last night. It had been hours—why hadn't his mom reacted at all?

The last time he posted something like this, his mom had 'liked' it. Even though it had made Sylvie cry, which really upset him.

But why wasn't there even a 'like' this time?

Did she miss it?

His dad and Sylvie were getting married soon. She was about to become his new mom!

Was his real mom truly not angry at all?

No, that couldn't be...

His mom was the most sensitive person, and she loved him the most. She had to be furious...

So why was there zero reaction?
