She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 203

Since he was the one at fault, he had no right to say no.

He just hadn't expected Sylvie to so blatantly flash their marriage licenses in the middle of the office.

And to say something like that. It sounded incredibly petty, entirely unlike the pure, sunny Sylvie he knew.

With that thought, Herbert looked at her with dark, complicated eyes.

He watched as she smiled and carefully tucked the licenses back into her bag, acting as if they weren't just pieces of paper, but rare treasures.

When she looked up, her eyes were still as clear as ever. She tilted her head in confusion. "What is it?"

"Nothing." Herbert lowered his gaze, immediately feeling guilty for having such uncharitable suspicions about her.

Sylvie was the victim here. When it came to relationships, she was completely innocent.

What she had just said was probably thoughtless, without any ulterior motive.

Or perhaps she just felt insecure. After all, from her perspective, the start of their marriage was far from honorable.

Reasoning it out this way, his guilt only intensified. He turned to Justin. "It's best if Sylvie comes with me. She knows the tech and can help."

Although Justin really wanted to go, he didn't push the issue. He smiled and agreed. "Alright, you two go then. Works for me, I get to sleep in."

With that, he chuckled and headed for the door, pausing just at the threshold.

He turned back, offering a genuine smile. "Herbert, Sylvie, congratulations on your marriage! When you have the actual wedding ceremony, I'll definitely write you guys a big check!"

Justin said this right by the open office door, so passing employees caught every word.

Even though they had engaged in a physical relationship, Herbert still couldn't mentally overwrite her identity as his student and subordinate.

He was so used to hearing her call him 'Mr. Jewell' that the word 'Hubby' triggered an intense, visceral wave of repulsion.

Sylvie took in his reaction, her eyes dimming. Then, like a child caught misbehaving, she mumbled, "I understand, Mr. Jewell. I'll be careful. It's just... Cora told me that since we're married now, I shouldn't call you Mr. Jewell anymore, so I..."

"Cora again." Thinking of his immature sister, Herbert felt a spike of irritation.

But looking up at Sylvie's pitiful, teary-eyed expression, his heart softened. "You don't have to listen to everything she says. You are my wife now; you're her sister-in-law. She should be listening to you. If she bullies you, tell me."

Sylvie wasn't like Hulda; she was young and didn't have Hulda's scheming mind.

Cora was a spoiled brat, and Sylvie would easily get bullied by her.
