She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 212

Soon, Callie efficiently set out the silverware and plates.

Sylvie casually picked up her fork and took a bite. After chewing for a moment, her brows knit together. "Callie, did you put sugar in this?"

Callie nodded. "Yes, I did."

It wasn't her first time making this dish, and she had always used a touch of sugar for the glaze before.

Sylvie pouted slightly. "Don't add it next time. It doesn't taste good."

Callie flushed, standing there awkwardly.

She was more than happy to adjust her cooking to suit different tastes, but this was the first time anyone had flat-out told her the food was bad.

And the fact that it came from Sylvie made it sting even more.

"Alright... I won't use it next time," Callie replied stiffly.

She looked at Sylvie, whose face still held that bright, cheerful smile. Even when she complained about the food, it sounded like a playful whine.

But for some reason, Callie couldn't shake the feeling that something fundamental had shifted without her realizing it.

For the entire duration of dinner, Callie couldn't find a single opening to ask about her wages.

By the time they finished, she walked out of the kitchen intending to finally bring it up, only to see Herbert and Sylvie already heading upstairs.

They left nothing but half-empty plates and a messy table behind.

Callie stared up the staircase and sighed heavily.

Ms. Sinclair and Mr. Jewell had only just gotten married. They probably had a lot on their plates. Forget it, she would just wait a few more days.

Swallowing her frustration, Callie silently began clearing the table.

...

Meanwhile, at the Jewell family estate, Cora walked into Valery's bedroom just as her mother was applying a face mask.

Valery always waited up for Wade.

Sighing, Valery gave Cora a meaningful look. "Your father is in a terrible mood lately. Watch yourself around him. Do not make him angry."

"Why is he mad? Wasn't he in a great mood just a few days ago? He finally found a lead on that phantom player."

Valery's brow furrowed. "She turned him down."

"Turned him down? Who does she think she is?!" Cora stood up, indignant.

"She's a genius, and she's exceptional enough to turn down whoever she pleases." Valery was disappointed too. She knew better than anyone how obsessed her husband was with winning the Master's Cup.

But if the player refused to help, there was absolutely nothing they could do.

The decision had never been in Wade's hands to begin with.

At the same time, Valery was intensely curious about what kind of young woman could brush off her husband without a second thought.
