She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 215

Even though they hadn't shouted it in her face like Ursula Delaney did, the prejudice had still been there.

And that was far worse than simply being called 'trash' by a stranger...

Now that they were on the receiving end of the exact same treatment, they finally understood how suffocating and humiliating it felt.

"So... what's our move, Director?" Dr. Lynch asked.

The people in charge of receiving them had literally dumped them in a hallway and vanished. No briefing, no schedule, nothing. Nobody had even told them where they were supposed to eat dinner. What kind of arrangement was this?

Hulda glanced toward the municipal office building next door. Her eyes darkened. "Drop your bags. I'm going to have a talk with them."

Of course she was angry. How could she not be?

But anger wouldn't solve the problem. Right now, she needed to get things moving.

Hulda found her assigned room on the second floor. It was bare-bones simple: a standard twin bed with crisp white sheets and a meticulously folded blanket. There was an antique-looking wooden desk with a matching chair, and a single desk lamp sitting next to an electric kettle.

A basic wardrobe stood next to a wooden coat rack, right outside the bathroom.

White tiles, an outdated toilet, and a clunky, old-school water heater.

For a moment, Hulda felt completely disoriented, as if she had time-traveled straight back to the nineties.

Yet despite how sparse it was, she could tell someone had put genuine effort into scrubbing the room clean.

She let out a soft sigh. Deep down, she knew Mr. Miller and the locals had been desperately looking forward to their arrival.

After quickly unpacking the essentials, Hulda walked out of the guesthouse, determined to track down Mr. Miller.

"So what do we do now? They're here. We have to cooperate," another voice pointed out.

Mr. Miller let out a weary sigh. "I genuinely thought this team would be our salvation. I never imagined..."

He slammed his hand on the desk again. "What else can we do? Treat them like royalty until their time is up and they pack up and leave. Just do the bare minimum to keep up appearances. Whoever's free can babysit them."

Standing outside the door, Hulda heard every single word.

Caleb's face darkened. "Director, listen to them. This is completely unacceptable."

Hulda took a slow, deep breath and knocked on the door.

A moment later, Zane pulled it open. Seeing Hulda standing there, his face went slack. "What... what are you doing here?"
