She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 216

"Who is it?" Mr. Miller called out.

Zane shifted uncomfortably. "Sir, it's the people from the institute."

Mr. Miller looked toward the doorway. When he saw Hulda's young face, his expression hardened. "Is there a problem? Are the accommodations not up to the institute's standards?"

As far as Mr. Miller was concerned, complaining about the lodging was the only reason she would be here.

Hulda kept her posture straight and her tone even. "May I come in?"

Mr. Miller hesitated for a second before nodding. "Come in."

Hulda walked inside, followed closely by Caleb, who eyed the rest of the staff in the room with intense caution.

"So? Does our young comrade have some directives or complaints for us? Speak up, we'll try our best to accommodate you," Mr. Miller said, his smile mocking and hollow.

Hulda's brow twitched. She absolutely despised this kind of passive-aggressive posturing, and her voice instantly turned ice-cold. "Yes. I do need you to accommodate me on a matter of work."

Mr. Miller let out a short, cynical laugh, his face practically screaming 'I knew it.'

He fully expected her to make outrageous demands for better food or luxury items. Instead, she said, "I need to finalize the location for the monitoring station immediately. Before coming here, I thoroughly reviewed the topography and climate data of this area. But to make an accurate assessment, I need to conduct a field survey. I need you to assign a guide who intimately knows the mountain terrain and routes to assist us."

She glanced at her watch. "It's too late and unsafe to go now. We'll leave first thing tomorrow morning. Is that understood?"

Mr. Miller was stunned.

He had been bracing himself for complaints about the beds or demands for better treatment.

He never imagined that the moment she walked in, she would immediately pivot to hard work.

It left him feeling slightly embarrassed and caught entirely off guard.

She sighed. "I packed a few cups of instant ramen in my luggage. I'll pass them out, and we'll just make do for tonight."

Caleb let out a defeated sigh of his own. "Don't worry about it, Director. We all brought our own ramen. Keep yours for yourself."

At this rate, there was no guarantee they would ever get a proper meal here...

Hulda was utterly speechless. This was her first time leading a field team, and she had already managed to let her entire crew go hungry.

...

Meanwhile, back in the city, Herbert sat properly at his dining table. Sitting across from him, Sylvie thoughtfully placed a piece of Honey Glazed Spareribs onto his plate.

"Thank you," he murmured, taking a small bite.
