Miles already despised Finn. Ever since the incident at Sylvie's family home, he hated him. It hadn't even been his fault that day, but everyone had forced him to apologize anyway! He couldn't stand this kid!
Now, seeing Finn sitting on his bed, clutching his favorite toy, a fiery rage exploded in Miles's chest. He charged right into the room.
"This is my room, my bed, and my robot!"
"No, it's not! I slept here last night. Everything in here is mine now." Finn gripped the robot tighter and shoved Miles's hands away.
Miles's tiny body stumbled backward, and he nearly fell over. "I've lived here my whole life! This is my house! Get out!"
Screaming at the top of his lungs, he lunged at Finn again, desperately trying to yank the robot out of his grasp.
Sylvie had built this model with him by hand. It was his most prized possession!
Finn refused to let go, clutching the toy to his chest like a lifeline. As Miles tried to pry it free, Finn started violently kicking Miles's shins with his small feet.
"Ow! Stop!" Miles cried out in pain, but he still didn't let go of the robot.
Finn's face was bright red. He gripped the toy tighter, refusing to surrender. He loved this robot just as much.
When his sister had brought him to this massive, beautiful house last night, he had fallen in love with the toy at first sight. He had even slept holding it.
The two boys locked in a brutal struggle. One sat on the bed, kicking furiously while holding on for dear life. The other stood on the floor, enduring the painful kicks, trying with all his might to rip the toy away.
Suddenly, a loud snap echoed through the room.
The robot's arm broke clean off.
The sudden release of tension sent Miles stumbling backward, landing hard on his rear end.
But he didn't even notice the pain. All his attention was locked onto the broken pieces of plastic in his hands.
He froze, his eyes instantly turning bloodshot as he stared at the snapped arms. "My robot is broken... The robot Sylvie made with me is broken..."
Consumed by pure rage, Miles didn't even care that his father was holding him. His arms and legs kept swinging wildly in the air, trying to land another hit on Finn.
"Put me down! I'm going to kill him!"
The moment Finn saw Herbert, massive tears streamed down his face. Like a terrified, wounded animal, he scrambled into the corner of the bed and curled into a tight ball.
Sobbing uncontrollably, he whimpered out apologies in a panic. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry... It's my fault... Please don't hit me..."
Herbert looked at the trembling, terrified boy in the corner, and then at his own son, who was still aggressively throwing punches at the air.
His expression darkened entirely.
Raising his free hand, he gave Miles a stern swat on the behind, roaring, "Miles!"
The sudden strike and the deafening yell made Miles's body instantly freeze.
