She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 244

Perhaps it was because of the forceful shove from Miles, but Hulda's lower back ached with a dull, persistent throb.

She couldn't quite tell if it was psychological or a physical injury. Regardless, it hurt.

It wasn't a sharp, agonizing pain, but a subtle, maddening ache that seemed to seep straight into her bones.

It kept her tossing and turning in bed, completely unable to sleep.

Eventually, she just turned on the lights, walked into the study, and grabbed a book, though she couldn't absorb a single word.

Outside, the familiar sweep of headlights brushed across her study window.

Hulda looked up, gazing out into the night.

Whoever is in that car is out late tonight.

She had no idea who was in the vehicle that constantly idled outside her villa. She had never even gotten a clear look at its make or license plate.

Strangely, she had developed a bizarre sense of familiarity with it.

It was obviously a stranger, someone who likely didn't even know she existed. Yet, its nightly presence brought her a weird sort of comfort.

Maybe it was because, in her darkest moments, that car's silent presence had inadvertently anchored her, pulling her out of a spiral of self-doubt.

Hulda offered a small smile to the empty room and looked back down at her book.

Inside the car, Dylan glanced up at the second-floor window. "Boss, Ms. Atherton is still awake."

Caspian checked the time. It was already one in the morning. His brows knitted together slightly.

"By the way, Boss, I've followed your instructions," Dylan continued. "I made a private donation in your name to the mountainous region Ms. Atherton visited. We've also deployed a professional team to assist with their post-disaster reconstruction."

"Good." Caspian nodded. He didn't pull his gaze away until her window finally went dark.

Watching this, Dylan couldn't hold his tongue. "Boss, if you're so worried about her, why don't you just go see her?"

What's the point of doing everything for her in the shadows if she has absolutely no idea?

"Which eye of yours told you I was worried about her?" Caspian's eyes darkened, his voice dropping to a freezing register.

Dylan shrank back into his seat and wisely zipped his lips. He had expected exactly this reaction.

When it came to the boss, the only thing harder than his cold exterior was his stubborn mouth!

In the backseat, Caspian closed his eyes, his breathing growing heavy.
