"Mrs. Gower is waiting for me. I'll head over," Valery said, giving Hulda one last warning glare before walking away.
The look in her eyes was completely ruthless, devoid of any mercy.
Joanna set her plate on the low table and looked at Hulda. "Do you two really not know each other?"
Hulda didn't want to complicate things. Most importantly, she wanted nothing more to do with the Jewell family, so she shook her head. "No, we don't."
Joanna nodded, suspecting nothing. "Then what did she say to you? She didn't give you a hard time, did she?"
Hulda shook her head. "We just exchanged a few words."
Joanna didn't press further, letting Hulda eat while checking the time.
What was taking Hayden so long? When was he going to bring Wade over?
She couldn't wait to see the look on Valery's face when her husband came rushing over just to meet Hulda. Oh, the expression on Valery's face was going to be absolutely priceless!
Even though she had always clapped back at Valery directly, she was deeply frustrated by the woman's unbearable arrogance and high-and-mighty attitude.
The whole reason she hadn't revealed Hulda's identity right from the start was because she was waiting for this exact, crushing moment!
She was going to use Hulda's prestige to ruthlessly shatter Valery's ego!
Seeing Joanna struggling to hold back a laugh, Hulda couldn't help but smile. "Joanna, what's so funny?"
Joanna snapped back to reality and offered an awkward smile. "Oh, it's nothing. Hulda, are you thirsty? Want me to grab you some water?"
Truth be told, Joanna felt incredibly guilty toward Hulda.
For the sake of her own pride and her husband's so-called friendship, she had dragged Hulda into this mess to face these absolute vultures.
